Staying Safe

The children had lots of fun during their PE lesson and thoroughly enjoyed doing gymnastics. They worked on a range of movements, including balancing, rolling, jumping, and travelling in different ways. It was great to see how their confidence grew as the lesson progressed. The children worked well both independently and with their friends, showing good control, coordination, and creativity.

In PSHE this week, the children learned about the internet and how it plays an important role in everyday life. They explored different web and internet tools, shared their own experiences of using online activities, and identified the internet-connected devices they use at home. Working in groups, they compared life before the internet with today and created maps to show how the internet helps save time and make tasks easier.

The children listened to a story about keeping safe online and then answered questions and shared their thoughts during class discussions. Through the story, they explored topics such as pop-ups, online unkindness, and the importance of not sharing personal information with strangers. The children discussed what to do if something online makes them feel uncomfortable, including stopping, saying no, and telling a trusted adult. They then created their own online safety posters reminding others how to stay safe when using the internet.

We then talked about the difference between surprises and secrets, sharing experiences and discussing how each can make us feel. The children learned that surprises are usually fun and that secrets can be harmful if they cause worry or involve something unkind. The children talked about how it feels to keep a secret and were reminded to tell a trusted adult if a secret ever makes them feel uncomfortable. The children showed lots of maturity during these lessons and shared some good knowledge and understanding about how to keep themselves safe.
