Message from our Principal
Week 6 sees us celebrating a few big moments in our school calendar that brighten the week and shine a light on books and reading and on equity in our public schools.
National Skills Week
The 25th-31st August is National Skills Week. One of the great things about school now is that there is a pathway for every student, from the most academic to those who are keen to develop their vocational skills while still at school. At MHS, we are fortunate to have extra funding and staffing as an EPP (Educational Pathways Program) school. Our students are able to access many wonderful school-to-work opportunities from try TAFE options to undertaking school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. We currently offer Hospitality as one of our Certificate II options for students to access here at school and we have a number of students undertaking School Based Aapprenticeships and Traineeships from chef to nursing. Our incredible Careers Adviser, Ms Leanne Clarkson has recently received an award from the Careers Advisers Association of NSW and ACT for Excellence in Student Engagement.
Book Week activities
This week we celebrate book week as well. (We know we are a week late, but we had some big HSC key dates that we needed to meet last week). Throughout the week, students will be engaged in a treasure hunt, the Scholastic book fair is visiting, and Tuesday (tomorrow) is book character dress up day. We love a dress up her at Mullumbimby High School and if it is to promote reading, all the better. What was the last book you read? Do you still make time for books? Is it time for you to “Book an Adventure”?
Wear it Purple Day
Also, this week we are recognising Wear it Purple Day on Friday. Founded at Burwood Girls High School in 2010, Wear it Purple Day celebrates rainbow youth and aims to raise awareness about the issues faced by LGBTQIA+ people while promoting inclusivity and acceptance. This year’s theme, ‘Bold voices, bright futures’, empowers LGBTQIA+ youth to dream big and share their voices with Australia. We have a Pride Club here at school and many Allies for our young people. Students and staff are encouraged to wear Purple this Friday in support of the day.
Thank you!
Many thanks to all in our community who have contributed to the different fundraisers for Uncle Scotty. The Trivia night on Saturday night really showed the spirit of our Mullumbimby Community with staff and families from across our Mullumbimby High and Partner Primary schools network coming out in force to support.
