Many thanks for the warm welcome this week as your new headteacher. It has been a privilege to get to know your children and the wonderful staff who nurture them everyday. I am busy getting to know your children and hopefully by half term I will have learnt all their names, please bare with me if I get any wrong! In my assembly on Tuesday we talked about New Years Resolutions and some of the children suggested they could read more, improve their writing and help at home more with the dishes, it will be interesting to see if that takes place. I am back on site next Tuesday but in the meantime I am contactable via email sfhead@hwbcymru.net. Have a lovely weekend! Lynne Williams
Fabulous first week back for Dosbarth Alwen. The children have been introduced to our new "Rainbow Challenge" station where children must complete 3 activities across the week based on prior or current learning independently. In maths, Nursery have been looking at preposition using playdough & cupcake cases & cars and bridges🤩👏🏻 Reception have been practising their number formation to 10 skills. In language, Reception have wrote out their 2026 new year resolutions & Nursery completed a Christmas snapshot drawing, talking about their holiday. We've also LOVED exploring the snow and ice - experimenting on how we can break/ melt the ice to free the penguins and polar bears. Da Iawn pawb👏🏻
This week we have been getting to know our new teacher, Mrs Ratcliffe and settling back into our routine. We have enjoyed having a class story where we made a big bed and all snuggles up to read ‘Peace at last’. This story will become our focus for language for this half term.
We have been recapping numbers and shapes in maths. We have started some missions and one was choosing a New Year’s resolution.
This week, the children have begun our new topic on the Celts, exploring what we already know and asking questions about how people lived in the past while linking to the Celtic Welsh artist Jen Delyth . In maths, they have started exploring shape through practical, hands-on activities and looking at symmetry in Celtic Shields.
Dosbarth Brenig have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our existing knowledge of Celts and what we would like to learn. In literacy we have developed diary writing skills that will evolve over the next few weeks.
In our maths activities we have reviewed our understanding of shape properties and used another mathematical skill using Venn and Carroll diagrams to sort.
We have had a fantastic first week back in Dosbarth Gwynant! We have enjoyed catching up and telling each other about our Christmas break, and setting ourselves goals for the year. Our new topic about Welsh Patagonia has started and we have thoroughly enjoyed being 'Historical Consultants' to research and understand the Welsh migration to Argentina.
Our class have plotted coordinates to show the route the ship took and have started to explore what life was like aboard the Mimosa, ready to plan our own diary entries! We have seen wonderful work from all of the children this week and we are so impressed. Da iawn pawb!😊

"First School Farm in North Wales" and "First to house livestock on-site!" More egg-citing plans coming over the next few months. We are always in need of additional materials to maintain and develop our farm. Diolch to our helpers this week that sourced materials to repair our sheds! Donations are greatly appreciated and we will start up the volunteer sessions again as the weather improves.
Our Farmers have been busy organising jobs and sharing their responsibilities this week. We planned ahead and organised their areas in readiness for the weather as well as sharing ideas on how to improve storage and workspaces around our farm. We've a few possible working links coming up that will offer new opportunities for our older pupils. Looking forward to sharing once we finalise some details.
Our furry friends are looking forward to seeing our little friends on their Udeskole days out with their classes. Dennis and Denise will soon be going on holiday for a few months to get lush grass and return later in the spring. The boys are looking well (a little too well...) while Fudge and Moo have started to form great bonds with our children. The hens are currently still in flockdown as a precaution against Avian Influenza. Hoping this will be lifted soon and they can get back to exploring our fields!
