PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Bluejay Family,

What a beautiful beginning to our school year! Our first three days together have been filled with joy, energy, and countless reminders of God’s goodness within our community. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we adjust to changes in car line and gym entry. Your cooperation has helped these first days run smoothly as we fine-tune the process.

For our PreK-4 and Kindergarten families—if your children are walkers, now is the time to begin saying your goodbyes at the gate. This small step helps them make the rest of the journey to class with growing confidence and independence.

As with any new beginning, there are a few kinks to work out and adjustments to make—but that’s just part of navigating the waters of a new school year. We are ready to help you chart the course, beginning with Back to School Night. Please save the dates listed below for your child(ren)’s grade level(s). These parent-focused evenings are designed for you to meet your child(ren)’s teachers and hear classroom expectations for the year firsthand. While it is not the time for individual conferences or concerns specific to your child—those can be scheduled separately—it is a valuable opportunity to listen, learn, and get a clear vision for the year ahead.

Our scriptural focus for this year is from the Gospel of Luke 5:4: “Put out into deep water…” This builds beautifully on last year’s theme of trust, calling us to go deeper in faith, keeping our eyes above the waves and fixed on Him.

Let’s put out into the deep together this year, trusting that the One who calls us into the water will carry us through it.

Grace & Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

RELIGION

SCS MASS

Our first school Mass is FRIDAY, as it is a Holy Day of Obligation. We will celebrate the Assumption of Mary. The Assumption is the celebration of the Virgin Mary’s body and soul lifted into Heaven at the end of her earthly life.

Mass is at 8:30 Friday morning and will be hosted by our faculty and staff. Guests may join us for limited seating in church, in the Narthex or PLC, or online at shbroussard.org/live.

Please note that our PreK and K students will not attend Mass for the first few weeks. This means we will have seating available in the church for the first few school liturgies. Making the Most of Every Minute — Growing in Faith, Knowledge, and Creativity

This year, we’ve thoughtfully redesigned our enrichment schedule with one goal in mind: to give our students the very best opportunities to grow academically, spiritually, and personally—without losing the rich variety that makes a St. Cecilia education so special.

In recent years, our teachers have noticed a growing need for more uninterrupted instructional time in core academic subjects. When we looked closely at our daily schedules, we realized that having multiple enrichment periods scattered throughout the day—along with frequent transitions—was unintentionally cutting into valuable teaching and learning time.

Our new schedule ensures that every grade level enjoys one intentional, well-planned enrichment period each day. This change allows us to protect and strengthen classroom learning, while still ensuring that every child will experience the full range of enrichment classes by the time they complete 5th grade. Once they reach junior high, students enjoy even more choice, selecting electives that match their interests and talents for deeper exploration.

We’ve also added something especially meaningful for our youngest Bluejays—PreK-4 through 3rd grade now spend a full hour each week in the Atrium, encountering Jesus and engaging in prayer, reflection, and hands-on experiences of our Catholic faith. This time nourishes their spiritual lives while giving homeroom teachers valuable opportunities to work with small groups in Math and Reading to meet individual learning needs.

Our enrichment teachers also play a key role in supporting academic success by assisting with oral testing for ASP students, helping ensure that every child can demonstrate their understanding in the way that serves them best.

By streamlining our schedule, we’ve reduced lost time from transitions, strengthened learning in the classroom, and created space for deeper encounters with Christ.

AR - TagGED on tuesday

The Tagged on Tuesday Summer Tag Celebration will be on August 19.

Sunday Meetings-Set up for success!

We encourage our families to have Sunday meetings to prepare for the week. Bluejay Bulletins are released, and lesson plans are due by Sunday at 4 pm. Please sit down with your child and help them write in their planner and prepare for the week ahead. Remember, the best resource for information is communication from the teacher (FACTS homework, class newsletters, google classroom/sites).

Back-to-school nights

Back-to-school nights are already on our school calendar. Please see the times set and prepare to report to your child's homeroom to begin the evening.

THANK YOU

We are so grateful for your flexibility and support as we move through these first days of school. Your feedback is important to us, and we are listening. As we make adjustments, our focus is on the big picture—choosing what will best serve and strengthen our entire school family. Together, we can make this a wonderful year for everyone.

Attention All 6th Graders

Attention 6th Grade Students and Parents! Does your child love to sing, or do they play a musical instrument? I am excited to offer them a Music Ministry Club for any 6th grade student to join if they wish to participate in leading music with me for our School Masses this year.

The only requirements are for you to have an open heart to Praise God in song, the ability to sing and/or play an instrument, and a respectful attitude for the Holy Mass.

Meetings/Rehearsals will be offered for any 6th grade student on Tuesday afternoons from 3:00-4:00 PM, beginning September 2, 2025. PLEASE NOTE that we will not meet one Tuesday per month due to our Faculty Meetings scheduled. A full calendar of rehearsal dates will be provided with more details once you have signed up.
