Sixth Form Newsletter 18th July 2025

Welcome

Dear Families,

As we approach the end of the academic year, we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our Year 12 students on their hard work, dedication, and achievements over the past year. They have shown real maturity in adapting to the demands of sixth form study and have laid strong foundations for a successful Year 13.

We are extremely proud of the effort and progress the students have made, and we look forward to supporting them further as they continue their journey with us in the next academic year.

Vocational Results Day

For those students studying vocational subjects, results will be released on Thursday 14th August 2025.

Start of Year 13

The planned return to school for Year 13 students in the new academic year is Thursday 4th September 2025. Students should arrive promptly and be ready to begin their final year with focus and determination.

Thank you for your continued support throughout Year 12. We look forward to working together to ensure a successful and fulfilling Year 13 for your child.

Warm regards,
Mr York - Head of Sixth Form
UCAS Discovery Conference at the University of Bedfordshire

This term our students had the exciting opportunity to attend the UCAS Discovery Conference at the University of Bedfordshire. This event brought together a wide range of universities, colleges, and apprenticeship providers from across the country, offering students the chance to explore their next steps after sixth form.

Throughout the day, students were able to speak directly with representatives from higher education institutions and apprenticeship programmes, asking questions and gathering valuable information to help inform their future choices. From course options and entry requirements to student life and career prospects, the event covered all aspects of post-18 pathways.

It was a highly informative and engaging experience, and we're pleased to report that all students found the day both useful and enjoyable. The trip sparked lots of thoughtful discussions and has helped many of our students feel more confident and inspired about their future plans.

Work Experience Week: A Valuable Insight into the World of Work

This term, our students took part in a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience of the working world through our annual Work Experience programme. Whether in person or through virtual placements, students spent the week exploring different industries and roles, many related to the careers they are currently considering.

Work Experience is an important part of their development, it allows them to see what a job is really like beyond the classroom, build confidence, and understand the skills and attitudes employers value. It also helps them make more informed decisions about their future, whether confirming their interests or opening their eyes to new possibilities.

We’re proud of how our students embraced the experience, and we hope this week has given them valuable insight into their chosen fields. Thank you to all the employers and organisations who supported our students and made this week such a success.

University Applications Are Underway!

We’re pleased to let you know that our students have now begun the process of applying to university. This is an exciting time, and students are being fully supported every step of the way by their form tutors and the Head of Sixth Form, who are always available to offer advice and answer any questions they may have.

Students have began drafting their personal statements and exploring different university courses and entry requirements. This is a valuable part of the process, helping them to reflect on their strengths and ambitions while researching what options are available to them.

Even if a student isn’t yet sure that university is the right path, we still encourage them to complete a UCAS application. This keeps their options open and gives them valuable experience of the application process, which can be useful for a range of future pathways.

We look forward to supporting all students in making informed, confident decisions about their next steps.

RSE Workshop with Wayne Stevenson

This term, our Sixth Form students had the valuable opportunity to take part in an RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) session delivered by our expert external provider, Wayne Stevenson. The session focused on the importance of self-checking for lumps and knowing what steps to take if something unusual is found.

Wayne delivered an engaging and interactive workshop, encouraging students to get involved and ask questions in a supportive environment. It was a hands-on session that promoted awareness, responsibility, and confidence in managing their own health.

We’re pleased to share that all students took part and found the session informative and enjoyable. Sessions like this play a vital role in preparing our young people with the knowledge and life skills they need for the future.

Need Help with School Costs? You May Be Eligible for a Bursary

If your household income is under £40,000 a year, your child may be eligible for a bursary of up to £1,200 per year to help with school-related expenses.

This money can be used to support the cost of:

  • Uniform
  • School equipment
  • Learning resources
  • Trips

The bursary does not affect any benefits you may currently be receiving, and there is nothing to pay back. It’s simply there to help students access everything they need to succeed.

If you think your child might be eligible, please encourage them to speak to Mrs Flynn as soon as possible. She will explain the process and provide the necessary forms.

We’re here to help, don’t miss out on support that could make a real difference.

Sixth Form Uniform Reminder – September Return

As we look ahead to the new academic year in September, we’d like to take this opportunity to politely remind parents and carers of the expectations around Sixth Form dress code.

As senior students, Sixth Formers enjoy a number of rights and privileges, including the option not to wear a school uniform. However, in place of uniform, all students are expected to follow our business dress code, reflecting the professional environment we aim to foster in preparation for further education and the world of work.

In addition, all Sixth Form students must:
  • Carry a school-branded bag (available to purchase from reception),
  • Wear their school lanyard and ID badge at all times on site.

Male Students Should Wear:

  • Tailored trousers
  • Smart cotton shirt with a collar and tie
  • Optional smart jumper
  • Optional formal blazer
  • Smart business or leather shoes – no trainers
  • No large logos or markings

Female Students Should Wear:

  • Smart dress or skirt (not excessively tight and should be no shorter than knee length)
  • Smart tailored trousers (not cropped or made of lycra)
  • Smart business shirt/blouse or suitable top (no vests, t-shirts, off-the-shoulder tops, or exposed midriffs)
  • Optional formal blazer
  • Smart business or leather shoes – no trainers, skater shoes, or flip-flops.
  • Shoes with moderate heels are permitted, though high heels are discouraged due to health and safety concerns
  • No large logos or markings

We look forward to welcoming students back in September.
