Once in a Lifetime

Reaching milestones in a career is a great achievement. Retiring is an even greater one. And retiring after 42 years of service is truly exceptional. Last month, City employees said goodbye to longtime employee George Ramos, who decided to retire after more than four decades of dedicated service to the City of Pico Rivera. George began his career as a Summer Youth staff member in the City's Public Works Department before being hired as a Recreation Leader I with the Parks and Recreation Department in 1983. Over the span of 42 years, George coached countless youth, prepared numerous fields, and provided leadership and direction to staff in both the Parks and Recreation and Public Works Departments. Thank you, George, for everything you have done for our community. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement!

Homeless Outreach Success - Pico Rivera

In March, coordinated outreach efforts in Pico Rivera resulted in the successful placement of a chronically homeless individual—unsheltered for more than ten years near Bermudez Avenue and Telegraph Road, behind the 7-Eleven—into long-term housing with supportive services. After multiple emergency medical incidents, the City’s Homeless Liaison partnered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Mental Health to carry out a timely intervention. The individual is now housed, receiving ongoing care, and remains stable, demonstrating the impact of coordinated, cross-agency outreach in addressing chronic homelessness.
