We were taken on a fantastic journey along the Yellow Brick Road with Year 6 last night, in their brilliant performance of The Wizard of Oz! Congratulations and well done to all our talented performers and everyone who helped bring the show to life.
From Clean Water to Creative Waste – It’s Science Week- Let’s recycle!
We’re looking forward to an exciting Science Week beginning on Monday 16 June.
The week will be packed with hands-on activities, fascinating experiments, and themed workshops—including a special visit from WaterAid, helping us explore the science behind clean water and global sustainability.
We will be making small boats from recyclable materials during the week, so if you have any items from your recycle bin that might help sail the winning boat, do bring it in after half term. Prizes for the winning sailors!
Home Clothes Day & Recycled Clothing Drive – Friday 20 June
Pupils are invited to swap their uniforms for their favourite home clothes in support of a special re/up-cycling clothing drive led by Chaplain Katie. We’re collecting good quality, pre-loved clothing to donate to our wonderful Textile Department for creative projects as well as to local charities in need.
Simply pop your donations in a bag clearly marked with your House name—every bag earns house points, so get sorting and give your clothes a second life for a great cause! Chaplain Katie
What happened in School this week?
Forest Explorers
What a fantastic week we have had in the Nursery. We have been making the most of the wonderful weather in our lovely surroundings. We have been enjoying role play on the Pirate Ship and we were looking out for the Pirates to stop them stealing our treasure!
Reception
Our story in Reception this week has been Handa’s Surprise. We discussed the similarities and differences between living here and in Kenya. The children talked about what was happening in the story, anticipating what would happen next and they loved the surprise at the end. We discussed the different fruit and the children labelled them and ordered pictures to create a story map. We have also spent time thinking about how to look after ourselves. We discussed six different ways to look after ourselves: eating healthy food, keeping clean, exercise, sleeping and resting, talking about how we are feeling, and wearing the right clothes depending on the weather which also included staying safe in the sun.
Year 1
In RE, Year 1 have been learning about Judaism and the day of rest that Jewish people call Shabbat. We learned about what is important to Jewish people during Shabbat and the special Shabbat meal. We have continued learning about the changing seasons in science. The fabulous sunshine this week has been a great opportunity to learn about how to stay safe in the sun!
We also loved creating costumes for a carnival as part of our English lessons. We had to use commands and questions to create an advert for a costume shop and think we would look fabulous!
Year 2
This week Year 2 have been working hard on fractions. We have enjoyed learning about the numerator and the denominator. Our favourite activity was a pizza matching game! We had to match the pizza picture with the correct fraction. In art we have looked at pointillism and have created our own sea creatures using cotton buds.
Year 3
This week Year 3 enjoyed a trip to the Museum of Kent Life to take part in a WWII workshop. Dressed as evacuees, land girls and military officers, we enjoyed learning how people in the 1940’s had to make do and mend, dug for victory and all about the evacuee experience. Learning how to march, with a very strict officer was a highlight. Although he did suggest we needed to practise!
Year 4
Year 4 have been making the most of their final week before half term. The children started the week with an absolutely amazing talk from Luis, who told them about life in South America: the countries, languages, customs, food and nature. They were fascinated to learn about the animal life (and the friendly toucans), how to help a sloth as it crosses the road and the size of the snakes! They can tell you how many different types of fruit there are and will impress you with the number of different potatoes that you can buy there - ask them! Alongside this, they have worked hard in swimming, improved their French, represented the school in cricket and managed English, science and maths lessons. These children are definitely ready for a break!
Year 5
Following a hugely positive trip to Norfolk last week, Year Five have been hard at work, identifying the properties of regular and irregular polygons, investigating the 5Ks of Sikhism and throwing themselves back into their normal timetable of lessons. One thing they've enjoyed is writing letters of thanks to staff at the Aylmerton Outdoor learning Centre. The thoughtfully created sentences were loaded with enthusiasm for all they did whilst there. Here they are, using O.S. maps to enrich their understanding of coastal features.
Year 6
UK Maths Trust Challenges
Since January, a selection of pupils have been attending a lunchtime Maths club in preparation for the annual UKMT Challenge. There have been two challenges: the Primary Kangaroo and the Junior Maths Challenge. This was a trial year for the Primary Kangaroo and as such there were only participation certificates and a score out of 20. The girls performed well with a high score of 18 hit by a few girls. This challenge was designed for primary school pupils. The second challenge was the Junior Maths Challenge. This is a competition for pupils up to Year 8, so included maths covered in the KS3 curriculum. All our girls did really well, with 4 pupils attaining the Silver Award – Lyra, Marcella, Karly and Daisy. With Bronze awards going to Elizabeth and Isla. Special mention to Lyra who achieved the best in Prep School and was oh so close to a gold award. I would like to congratulate all who took part for their efforts, commitment and resilience in taking the challenge and joining me at lunchtime for some maths challenges. It has been a pleasure!
Finally, if you would like to try some of the questions – follow the link below to see how you would get on.
