Road Train Permit Approved

Main Roads WA has recently approved our application for a Performance Based Standard (PBS) 60m road train permit. This will enable our logistics contractor Campbell Transport to operate road trains carrying our rotainers of product to and from Thunderbird along the designated heavy vehicle route of Great Northern Highway, Broome Road, Gubinge Road and Port Drive.

One of the conditions of the permit process was that KMS was required to undertake community consultation to understand the views and concerns of stakeholders and the Broome community.

The permit is subject to conditions including limiting truck speed to 40km/h between the Broome Road / Tanami Drive turn off and the Gubinge Road / Magabala Road junction, and to 60km/h along the remainder of Gubinge Road and on Port Drive.

Campbell Transport Fleet

Our logistics contractor, Campbell Transport, has taken delivery of nine brand new Kenworth prime movers which have been fitted out with all the safety features required of Performance Based Standard (PBS) vehicles.

These include Forward Looking Infrared Cameras (FLIR) to help drivers see animals on the side of the road at night, geofencing to limit areas and speeds of operation and enable vehicle tracking, anti-sway technology as well as driver alerts and monitoring.

The first prime movers have arrived in Broome and will initially be configured as triple road trains to transport the first bagged product from Thunderbird to Broome. The quad configuration will be introduced when rotainers of product are ready to be brought into Broome for storage early in the New Year.

Six of the new prime movers will be used in a double road train format for transporting rotainers from the laydown area to the wharf during shiploading.

Amaroo Mining and Civil Awarded Tailings Storage Maintenance Contract

Majority Aboriginal-owned business Amaroo Mining and Civil Pty Ltd (AMC) is the successful tenderer to operate and maintain the Tailings Storage Facility at Thunderbird for the next three years.
