WEEKLY NEWSLETTER west meadows - 16th may 2025

Welcome to West Meadows Weekly!

This week I want to start by saying a massive well done to all of our Year 6 pupils who took their SATs assessments this week. They showed great focus and concentration during the tests and really did give it their all! Well done to them all. We would also like to say a massive thank you to Mrs Oates for arranging a special treat from the ice-cream van on Thursday afternoon to celebrate the end of their assessments and their hard work! Thank you so much! On Friday, children will enjoy some reward time and treats in school as well.

Year 2 SATS:

A reminder that Year 2 SATs start on Monday 19th May. We keep these assessments very informal with children working in small groups. Children have had lots of practice throughout the year and are used to the format of the tests and so for the children it is simply another piece of work. If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher.

Phonics Screening Check:

A reminder to our Year 1 parents that we have sent home learning packs with QR codes so that you can help your child practice their phonics at home. Please come and see the Year 1 staff or Miss Bennett if you have any questions.

Compass Be Workshops:

We are excited to have Compass Be coming in on Thursday 22nd May in Year 1 and Friday 23rd May in Year 2 to deliver some workshops with our children. The workshops are based around supporting children to understand and manage different emotions.

Year 6 Transition to Kirk Balk:

You should have (or will soon be receiving information regarding Year 6 transition to Kirk Balk. Transition is on the 10th and 11th July. Children should wear their West Meadows School uniform for the day but should go directly to Kirk Balk and do not need to return to West Meadows at the end of their school day. There will also be information regarding additional transition for some pupils coming out soon.

SEN Coffee Morning:

We have our next SEND coffee morning on Friday 23rd May at 9am. The focus of this will be transition. For any year 6 parents, Mr Hough the year 7 learning manager will be coming at 10.00 am to answer any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Attendance Matters:

Every Friday we will celebrate our children’s achievements, both in school and at home, including their attendance in school. Good attendance is vital for your child’s education and means they can make the most of all aspects of school life. We really need your support this year to raise our attendance. If you need any help or support please come and see Mrs Maree. You can see your own child’s attendance for the year and the last 4 weeks on the Arbor App. An attendance of 97% or above is considered to e good attendance.
