STUDIO OVERVIEW
One of five sophomore studios, each focused on "the problem of decoration": ornamentation in architecture disappeared with the introduction of the twentieth century and the Modernist style. Despite this, a resurgence in the art of ornamentation has begun, and these eight-phase sophomore studios seek to gain inspiration from past design methodology: Gothic configuring, Celtic interlacing, Art Nouveau's tendriling, Islamic tesselating, and Indian Kolam interlacing. These decorative figures manifest themselves into finalized structures at the end of the course, and this page focuses on the Gothic configuration led by Lars Spuybroek.
