A Message from Miss Steele
As we come to the end of another school year, we want to say a huge thank you to all our parents and carers and our wider school community for your continued support. Your encouragement and involvement have helped make this year such a positive and successful one. Our children have worked incredibly hard – developing the roots to grow and the wings to fly – and it’s been a joy to see them flourish both in and out of the classroom. We’re so proud of all they’ve achieved.
In staffing news, we say goodbye to Mrs Merriman, Mrs Hall, and Miss Czajka, and we wish them all the very best for the future. We also say a fond farewell to Mrs Clark, who is retiring after an incredible 21 years at St Margaret’s. We thank her for her dedication and care over the years – it’s now time for her to enjoy some well-deserved her time!
Thank you again everyone for being such a valued part of our school community. We wish you all a restful and happy summer.
Year 6
What an incredible summer term it has been for our brilliant Year 6 pupils! As they prepare to leave primary school and take the next big step in their education, they’ve packed this final term full of hard work, unforgettable experiences and joyful memories.
Right from the start of term, Year 6 hit the ground running. Just two weeks in, they faced one of their biggest challenges - SATs week - and we could not have been more proud of how they approached it. With calm confidence and positive attitudes, they tackled every test with focus and determination. To help them start each day on the right note, the PTA kindly provided delicious sausage sandwich breakfasts, which gave everyone an energy boost and brought a lovely sense of togetherness each morning. Thank you, PTA!
With SATs behind them, there was no time to rest, as the very next week brought a new adventure: Service Week. Organised by the ever-resourceful Mrs Warwick, the children spent five action-packed days giving back to the community and showing just how capable, caring and hard-working they are. Whether they were working at the Cameo Café, litter picking around the village, gardening or serving food and drinks to members of the community in Burbage, they approached each task with maturity, responsibility and kindness.
One of the most memorable activities was their visit to King’s Lodge, where they not only helped out and played games but also hosted a wonderful coffee morning, complete with homemade cakes! It was super to see the joy they brought to others and the pride they took in doing something meaningful.
After all their hard work, Year 6 were rewarded with a well-deserved day of fun and thrills at Drayton Manor. There was laughter, screams of delight (especially when they got wet!), and lots of fun as the children made memories with their friends that will last a lifetime. It was the perfect way to celebrate everything they’ve achieved.
And as if that wasn’t enough, the children have also been busy rehearsing for our end-of-year production of ‘The Lion King’. Learning lines, perfecting songs, and getting into character has taken dedication and teamwork - and they’ve risen to the challenge with enthusiasm and flair. We can’t wait for the big performance and to see all their hard work come to life on stage!
This term has been a true celebration of everything that makes our Year 6 pupils so special: their determination, kindness, creativity and spirit. They have given their all in everything they’ve done, and we couldn’t be prouder of the young people they’ve become.
As they prepare to move on to secondary school, we know they will take all they’ve learned and experienced with them; we’re excited to see all the wonderful things they will go on to do.
Good luck, Year 6 - keep shining brightly and never stop being amazing!
Reception
What a busy year we have had in EYFS! We are so proud of all of the children, who have worked hard this year to make new friends, learn the names of the adults, understand our school's Christian values and Golden Rules and develop their independence, as well as all the more academic learning, from phonics and Maths, to STEM science skills and being creative artists! They have definitely earned a restful summer as they prepare to continue their journey at St Margaret's as Year 1 children in the Autumn term. We have loved seeing them grow and develop this year and can't wait to see them continue to flourish!
Year 1
Wow, what a year Year 1 has had! We've been super busy from start to finish – making delicious apple crumbles, diving into lots of exciting books, and completing fantastic work linked to our reading. In history, we’ve learned all about astronauts and the amazing adventures of space travel, while in geography we’ve explored maps and discovered more about the world around us. It's been a joy to see how much the children have grown in confidence and independence. I know they are more than ready for the challenge of Year 2 and I’m certain they will continue to shine. Well done, Year 1!
Year 2
This term has been packed with exciting activities and learning opportunities for Year 2. The children took part in more live virtual author events, including sessions with Jamie Smart, the creator of the Bunny vs Monkey graphic novels, and Cressida Cowell, author and illustrator of How to Train Your Dragon. These inspiring talks led to some wonderful artwork and sparked aspirations in many of our young learners to become writers and illustrators themselves.
To complement our science learning, we celebrated World Environment Day with an online event titled From Tiny Forests to Big Discoveries. The children explored how we can care for our planet and discussed the importance of planting trees. There are free local 'Tiny Forest Discovery Days' happening over the summer holidays that your child can join—click here to find out more: https://earthwatch.org.uk/events
In English, we’ve been reading The Secret of Black Rock. The children made thoughtful predictions and even participated in a lively debate: should Erin protect Black Rock or should the villagers destroy it?
The children have also been making the most of the new additions to our school library, exploring everything from short chapter books and graphic novels to a wide range of non-fiction titles. It’s wonderful to see everyone truly enjoying reading for pleasure.
A definite highlight of the term was our trip to Tamworth Castle, which kicked off our local history topic. The children experienced life in a castle—helping Lady Ferrers prepare the table for a medieval feast, climbing the Norman tower, training as squires and learning about battle equipment. Walking up the motte was a memorable challenge and many agreed that any invading enemies would’ve been exhausted by the time they reached the top!
After such an action-packed term, our Year 2 children are more than ready for a well-deserved summer break!
Singtastic
This term our amazing KS2 school choir, led by the wonderful Mrs Beasley, took to the stage at De Montfort Hall as part of the incredible Singtastic event!
What a fantastic experience it was for our children to perform live in front of an audience, singing songs all about Leicester and Leicestershire. They sang their hearts out and made us all so proud!
Year 3
Year 3 have had a fabulous year, and we are so proud of all they have achieved. They are more than ready for Year 4, and we’re excited to see them continue to flourish. A real highlight this term was our class trip to Conkers, where the children enjoyed a fantastic Roman-themed day. They took part in a variety of fun activities, including mud sculpting, a 4D cinema experience, a train ride, and time in the adventure parks. We were especially proud to hear such positive feedback from the Conkers staff about the children’s excellent behaviour – a lovely way to round off a brilliant term!
Year 4
Wow! What an unforgettable year it’s been in Year 4! We began with one of Mrs Beasley and Mrs Danks’s all-time favourite reads, The Wild Robot, and were thrilled to see the brand-new film at the cinema, what a treat! The children made a splash during their swimming term, growing in confidence and skill each week, and shone brightly while hosting the beautiful Christmas Carols in the Church.
This year’s St Margaret’s Got Talent was a definite highlight. Year 4 impressed everyone with their amazing acts, and we were so proud of our very own winner, Rebecca! We also had a brilliant time taking part in the Sponsored Walk (with a well-earned ice pole to finish!) and absolutely wowed everyone with our fantastic maypole routine at the Summer Fair, we really nailed it!
Throughout the year, the children have gone from strength to strength. We’ve loved seeing them grow, mature and take on new challenges with enthusiasm and positivity. Mrs Beasley and Mrs Danks will miss them lots, but are excited to see them continue their journey just next door in Year 5. Well done, Year 4. You’ve been absolute superstars!
Year 5
What a brilliant year it has been for Year 5! A year filled with growth, independence, and hard work. From the very beginning, this class has impressed me with their enthusiasm, perseverance, and love for learning.
As the year comes to a close, we’ve had the chance to enjoy some fantastic outdoor learning, while continuing to work hard across all areas of the curriculum, getting ready to take on the exciting challenges of Year 6.
Science has been a real highlight this year! We explored the fascinating world of living things and their habitats, with a special focus on metamorphosis. A big shout-out to Josh and his stick insects, which truly brought our learning to life and had the whole class curious, excited, and even a little squirmy! We also had great fun investigating water and air resistance, learning about the different factors that affect them, there were plenty of exciting experiments and lots of hands-on discovery!
We've also enjoyed peaceful moments of reading outside, making the most of the sunshine while developing our literacy skills.
It’s been a journey full of ups and downs, but I am incredibly proud of how far Year 5 have come. They’ve shown true determination and spirit, and I know they are more than ready for what lies ahead.
Well done Year 5, you've been amazing! Good luck in Year 6!
