Teen Night

Our Teen Night was a huge success once again this year.
Participants played games that helped them expand their knowledge on self-love.
The event is open to youth ages 13-19 and focuses on teaching how to establish and maintain healthy relationships through these pivotal and formative years.
It was an excellent chance for teens to socialize and enjoy themselves.

Therapeutic Recreation Program- Cupid’s Soiree

Our TRP participants celebrated Valentine's with fun games, food, crafts, and more.
Everyone who attended had an amazing time!

Chinese New Year Senior Candlelight Dinner

Our Chinese New Year Senior Candlelight Dinner celebrated the year of the horse!
There was great entertainment...
And great fun!

Glow in the Dark Youth Kickball

The energy was high, the kicks were strong, and the smiles were even brighter than the neon lights!
So proud of all our kiddos for bringing the fun, teamwork, and great sportsmanship.

Youth Basketball Season

What an amazing youth basketball season!
Thank you to our dedicated volunteer coaches, supportive families, and incredible athletes for making this season so special.
From the first practice to the final buzzer, our players showed great teamwork, growth, and heart all season long.
So proud of all our kiddos for bringing the fun, teamwork, and great sportsmanship.
We can't wait to see you again next season!

Transportation

GTrans is partnering with regional transit agencies as part of the Games Enhanced Transit System (GETS) network, working closely with L.A. Metro to support transportation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as Los Angeles hosts matches at SoFi Stadium. Regional planning efforts are focused on providing reliable transit service, strengthening connections to major transit hubs, and enabling visitors to move efficiently throughout the area.
GTrans’ role is to maintain regular service while assisting with the increased demand from event attendees. Collaboration with partner agencies aims to minimize traffic congestion and provide safe, convenient transportation for both residents and visitors. Further updates and details will be shared as we get closer to the global event..

Police

GPD had the privilege of welcoming Los Angeles County District Attorney Nate Hochman to the Gardena Police Department.

It was a productive and forward-thinking conversation centered on strengthening relationships, improving efficiency, and building greater synergy between our agenciesWhen law enforcement and prosecutors are aligned, information flows better, cases are stronger, and our community is better served.

Public Works

Too Toxic To Trash

The free household hazardous and electronic waste drive-through collection event was held on February 7, 2026, at Johnson Park.
We had 1000 cars/loads of hazardous waste.

Bulky Item Pick Up

The Semi-Annual Bulky Item Pick Up days were scheduled on Saturdays from February 14 through March 14, 2026.
 202.41 tons of bulky items were picked up. 

Shine Gardena Graffiti Clean Up

The cleanup event was held on February 28, 2026, with volunteers and city staff cleaning graffiti and stickers on light poles, streetlights, bus benches, signs, etc.
Be on the lookout for future volunteer opportunities by following the City on social media.

Gardena Aquatic & Senior Center Project
Pouring the curb and gutter on Harvard and 160th Street.
Artesia Boulevard Street Improvement
Configuration and activation of the traffic signal and mounting of the new Gardena street signs on the signal pole arm.
Nakaoka Community Center Electrical System & Civic Center Outdoor Lighting Upgrades
Placement of electrical conduit on the Nakaoka Community Center wall and placement of new electrical underground conduits and breaker box.
Rowley Park Basketball Court Rehabilitation
Installation of new basketball base surface liner on the north and south basketball courts.
