Brian E. Lutton system of meanings

Brian is committed to embracing and struggling with others in a world that demands our response. He fundamentally believes in the rights of all human beings to be understood, communicate, and make their own decisions. His perspective is situated in narrative-based support; communication ethics literacy; interpersonal, relational, family, intercultural, and organizational communication perspectives; and communication for social change.

to be is to communicate (Bakhtin)

Brian investigates the ideologies and structures of power that impose absolutes onto our realities and beings. His work responds to both what we have psychologically sealed in ourselves and what has been institutionally ascribed to our identities. He believes we must question and challenge what we are structurally experiencing as we continue to ask "why" about our world.

stories of our living

Communication offers possibilities to explore both harmony and conflict across the different contexts of our lives. In this, Brian explores the tensions between what has become centered and all that is not centered. He investigates the intersections of how we are persuaded and where we are positioned in our environment.

Above all, Brian is committed to meeting human beings in their stories, actions, and assemblies in a world where it could be far easier to love each other. In this, meaningful change happens in and through communication.
