We are in the heart of winter in February and while it may be cold outside, Valentine's Day – the holiday of love – warms our hearts inside. Valentine's Day reminds us to take some time to show love and appreciation for the people we care about and who care about us, including our family, friends, neighbors and community.
Town Hall is Closed Monday, February 17th in observance of the holiday

President's Day
Monday, February 17th
The third Monday in February is a holiday to honor American presidents. The holiday originally honored George Washington, whose birthday was February 22nd. In 1885 Congress declared February 22nd as a Federal holiday and in 1971 the Uniform Monday Holiday Law changed the date to the third Monday in February, in between Washington and Lincoln's birthday, to honor the office of the Presidency, and the day was changed to Presidents Day.

The 2025 Black History Month theme is "African Americans and Labor."
"The 2025 Black History Month theme, African Americans and Labor, focuses on the various and profound ways that work and working of all kinds – free and unfree, skilled, and unskilled, vocational and voluntary – intersect with the collective experiences of Black people. Indeed, work is at the very center of much of Black history and culture. Be it the traditional agricultural labor of enslaved Africans that fed Low Country colonies, debates among Black educators on the importance of vocational training, self-help strategies and entrepreneurship in Black communities, or organized labor’s role in fighting both economic and social injustice, Black people’s work has been transformational throughout the U.S., Africa, and the Diaspora. The 2025 Black History Month theme, “African Americans and Labor,” sets out to highlight and celebrate the potent impact of this work."

Please be sure to sign up for the new alert system, to choose what types of alerts you would like to receive. With winter upon us, you want to be able to receive all of the alert messages!
***Please remember to sign up for the New Alert System!***
The town has transitioned to a new alert program called Everbridge. The Everbridge program will be able to alert our residents as our past program did, however, it also gives us more features that we are excited to be able to use. This program is already being used by the State of Connecticut, as well as many other municipalities and schools throughout the state. Enrollment is completely free and voluntary. Residents have the option of providing multiple phone numbers or email addresses to be sure the alert is received.
In addition to sending out emergency alerts (road closures, etc...), we will now have the ability to notify regarding town events (community events, Town Meetings, etc...), weather alerts, senior center alerts, and more. The program is able to send notifications based on neighborhoods and locations, as well.
**We are asking everyone to enroll for the new program, even if they have already enrolled for the previous one. Some of the phone list we had was quite outdated and we would like to be sure that everyone is getting the information that they are opting to receive. While signing up, please be sure to select whether you would like to receive All Alerts, or just some of them.
