Current Projects:
Does what you see impact how your body responds to exercise in the heat?
Using VR headsets and a controlled environment the HS&E team are exploring whether manipulating what you see can increase/decrease sweating during exercise, and if so, is it enough to change core body temperature. See the video below for more.
Is there a combination of heat stress and exercise intensity that causes kidney injury?
Using an environmental chamber, members of the HS&E, in collaboration with Dr. Nathan Raines, are assigning individuals several whole-body exercise intensities in a hyperthermic environment and measuring evidence of kidney injury. The findings from this study could help reduce the incidence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in outdoor-based manual labor occupations, especially in populations where CKD is more prevalent.
