Satan is a fallen angel who chose to disobey God. He tries to turn people away from God by telling lies. Satan was initially created by God to be a beautiful angel. But Satan became proud and wanted to be like God (Isaiah 14:12-15). Because of his pride, Satan was cast out of heaven. Now, Satan is God’s enemy, and he wants people to disobey God just like he did.
But there's good news! We can trust God’s Word over Satan’s lies. Jesus came to defeat Satan and teach us the truth.
God's Word
In John 8:44, Jesus calls Satan the "father of lies."
In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Our theme verse for the month says that Scripture is useful for rebuking. What do you think the word “rebuking” means? (It means fighting back or identifying something wrong.) Can you think of a time when the Bible has helped you fight against a lie of Satan?
Truth
Satan lies because he doesn’t want us to trust God. But God’s Word, the Bible, always tells us the truth. That's why we read it. When unsure, you can pray and read the Bible to know what’s real.
Activity
Pick one side of the room to be the truth side and one side to be the lie side. Run to the side of the room that matches whether they think the statement in the video is true or a lie. After, talk about how we can know if something is the truth or a lie.
Pray
“Dear God, thank You for Your truth. Help us to always trust You and stand against Satan’s lies. Thank You for loving us and guiding us through Your Word. Amen.”
Take Home Challenge
As a family, share things that are true about God together. Encourage one another to read the Bible when feeling confused or hearing something that seems like a lie.
