LPA Newsletter Friday 7th November 2025

Mr Kirby, Principal and Mrs Jones, Executive Principal
Welcome back to Autumn Term 2

We are delighted to welcome all our students back to Lodge Park Academy for the start of what promises to be another exciting and enriching half term. We hope everyone had a restful break and is ready to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead. This week is already shaping up to be a busy and inspiring one across the academy. We’re kicking things off with the launch of our Rowvember Rowing Challenge, encouraging teamwork, perseverance, and healthy competition throughout the month. Our morning House Assemblies, led by our fantastic Heads of House, will focus on Character, a key element of our academy values and an important reminder of how we can all make a positive contribution to our school community. In the afternoons, our Principal, Mr Kirby, will be leading Welcome Back Assemblies, setting the tone for the term ahead and celebrating the many achievements of our students so far this year. We’re also thrilled that our Year 7 students had the opportunity to visit Cambridge University on Thursday. This is recognised as a world class learning institution which provided an inspiring opportunity to experience one of the world’s leading universities and broaden their horizons for the future. On Friday, we marked National Stress Awareness Day, with activities and discussions during form time to support student wellbeing and help everyone develop strategies for managing stress in a positive way. Finally, a reminder that this week is also the deadline for handing in our Christmas Shoebox Appeal donations — thank you to everyone who has contributed so far to this wonderful cause. Your generosity will make a real difference to those in need this festive season. It’s a fantastic start to Autumn Term 2 — full of learning, kindness, and community spirit. Let’s make it a great week, Lodge Park!

Warm regards,
Lodge Park Academy Leadership Team
Table Talk

Mr Cronin has been talking to all our students about the KPI process and how best to revise. During this assessment period please take some time to discuss with your children their approach to revision and discuss what strategies they have learned about and how they intend to move forward, using the information below to help them revise for upcoming KPIs. Helping Your Child Succeed: How Parents Can Support Effective Revision As exams approach, revision can feel like a stressful time for students — and for parents, too! While you can’t do the studying for your child, your support, structure, and encouragement can make a huge difference. Here are some practical ways to help your child revise effectively and confidently.

1. Help Them Make a Realistic Plan A good revision plan breaks big tasks into smaller, manageable chunks. Sit down together and create a revision timetable that includes all subjects, balancing study with regular breaks and downtime. Tip: Encourage them to start with the subjects they find hardest, when their energy and focus are highest. They should also plan in time for hobbies and activities that they enjoy and do on a weekly basis.

2. Create a Calm, Distraction-Free Study Space Children work best in a tidy, quiet environment. Help them set up a dedicated revision space with everything they need — pens, notebooks, water, and minimal clutter. If distractions are an issue, suggest turning off phone notifications or using apps that block social media during study time.

3. Encourage Active Learning Simply reading notes isn’t enough! Support your child to engage actively with what they’re revising. Try: Asking them to teach you what they’ve just learned. Using flashcards for key terms and definitions. Creating mind maps or summaries together. Testing knowledge with past papers or quiz apps. Active learning helps information stick — and builds confidence.

4. Focus on Wellbeing, Not Just Work Effective revision isn’t just about time spent at a desk. Encourage a balanced routine with: Healthy meals and hydration Regular exercise or fresh-air breaks Enough sleep (especially before exams!) Remind your child that taking care of their body also supports their brain.

5. Offer Encouragement, Not Pressure Your attitude can strongly influence how your child feels about exams. Keep things positive — praise their effort rather than focusing on grades. Avoid comparing them to others and celebrate small wins along the way. A calm, encouraging presence helps children manage stress and believe in their abilities.

6. Know When to Step Back While guidance is important, independence is key. Let your child take ownership of their learning — this builds confidence and self-discipline. Offer support when they ask, but give them space to manage their own time and methods.

Attendance

It's been a great start to this academic year and this new term. Our year to date attendance is 2% higher than this time last year. This week our attendance has not dropped below 90% as a school. We are ambitious this will continue to improve. Four of our Tutor Groups have won the first round of attendance challenges and have been rewarded with tutor time snacks for the whole group. We are waiting with anticipation who will be next and which tutor group will go on to achieve their non-school uniform day. 100% weekly attendance has been celebrated 3409 times since the start of the academic year, with students and families receiving our weekly celebration emails. To support our families further we have set up late messaging and weekly attendance messages keeping you up to date informed of your child's punctuality and weekly attendance. Our Attendance Welfare Officers are always available to listen to any concerns and provide guidance.

Championing Independent Learning with Seneca – Term Two Relaunch at Lodge Park Academy

Following a hugely successful first term, we are excited to relaunch and continue our work with Seneca as our Key Stage 4 homework platform throughout Term Two. Since introducing Seneca, engagement at Lodge Park Academy has been exceptional. We were proud to be ranked as the third highest user of Seneca in the entire region, demonstrating the impressive effort shown by our students and their growing confidence in independent study. There have been standout individual achievements too, such as Emanuela F, who completed more than four hours of independent study alone – a brilliant example of aspiration, resilience and commitment.

Term Two – Building on Success

In Term Two, students in Years 10 and 11 will continue to receive regular homework through Seneca, aligned to the academy homework timetable. These tasks are carefully designed to: · Strengthen knowledge · Improve long-term memory · Build exam confidence · Support students to achieve their best in their GCSE and Level 2 courses This next phase is about consistency, habits and depth of learning.

Your Support Matters

We ask for your ongoing support as parents and carers in ensuring that homework on Seneca is completed each week. Encouragement at home makes a real difference and reinforces the value of independent learning beyond the classroom. Together, we will continue to empower every student at Lodge Park Academy to realise their full potential.

This Week Cambridge University, Next Week Cambodia...

This week, the vast majority of our Year 7 cohort at Lodge Park Academy had the incredible opportunity to visit the world-renowned Trinity College, Cambridge University. The purpose of this visit was to open our students’ eyes to the possibilities that higher education offers, and to raise aspirations about the destinations our young people from Corby can reach through hard work, endeavour, and ambition. The trip was expertly led and organised by Mrs Langley (Assistant Head), whose meticulous planning ensured that every aspect of the day ran smoothly and that our students made the most of this inspirational experience. The day began with a guided tour of Trinity College, led by current undergraduate students who shared their own inspiring stories about how they came to study at this world-class institution. They spoke openly about their academic journeys, their experiences of university life, and what it means to study in such a historic and intellectually rich environment. Our students were then invited to take part in a ‘thinking skills’ session, where they got a taste of the analytical and creative approaches that Cambridge encourages. This was followed by lunch within the stunning college grounds, allowing our Year 7's to soak up the atmosphere and imagine themselves as future students walking those same pathways. The afternoon took us to the English and Humanities Faculty, where students participated in a hands-on session exploring the concept of ‘commonplace books’ — a traditional Cambridge practice for recording ideas, reflections, and inspirations. This activity encouraged our students to think deeply and express their thoughts with curiosity and creativity. Throughout the day, our Year 7's were in awe of the breathtaking architecture, inspired by the stories of achievement, and fascinated by the sense of history that fills every corner of the college. They witnessed first-hand the culture of independence, intellectual exploration, and opportunity that defines university life at its best. This visit has truly broadened the horizons of our youngest students and reminded them that no dream is too ambitious — even from right here in Corby, the world is within reach And speaking of horizons — this week Cambridge, next week Cambodia! Stay tuned as Mr Kirby unveils our exciting plans for the academy’s next global adventure and our journey from Corby to Cambodia!
