Booth Wood Academy News

We hope this newsletter finds you well. It’s been another busy and exciting month at Booth Wood Academy, filled with achievements, transitions, and memorable moments!

OFSTED We would like to thank all the parents who responded to the OFSTED questionnaires and those who spoke to the inspectors last week. We were very proud to showcase our wonderful school, celebrate our pupils’ achievements, and give the inspectors the opportunity to meet our pupils and see the high-quality educational experience provided at Both Wood Academy. We expect the full report to be published within six weeks. Once it is available, we will share it with parents and upload it to the school website.

Sports Days & Events Our Sports Days were a huge success! The children gave their all in both fun and competitive races. The coloured PE T-shirts looked fantastic and really brought out the team spirit — they were a great sight from a distance! I think the highlight for the children was watching Mr Wolfe run in the parents’ race. I can assure you he was still nursing sore limbs late into the afternoon!

Transitions Transition activities are now in full swing, helping children feel confident and excited about their next steps. Transition Morning: This is a special day (Friday 3rd July) where children spend time in their new classes, getting to know their teachers and routines. Meet the Teacher Booklets will be sent home on Friday 3rd July to help families prepare.   Our new Year 1 parents (current Cherry Class) will have a chance to meet their new teacher  - Miss Hardy - on Monday 6th July at 3:20pm  and have a look around their new classroom. In Autumn term there will also be a chance for all parents to meet their child’s new  teacher  and visit their child’s new classroom within the first two weeks of the children returning to school.

It’s a Knock Out Team Day! We are really looking forward to our fabulous new team-building day in school! The children will take part in a number of exciting events within their year groups to earn points for their team houses. This will give them a wonderful opportunity to work together, have fun, and support one another while developing their skills. The morning will consist of funfair-style games, with a round-robin of activities for everyone to enjoy. In the afternoon, the children will take part in traditional sports games—with a fun twist! We are expecting this to be the best day of the year for the children, and we cannot wait to see everyone getting involved and enjoying themselves.

Uniform & Sustainability It’s lovely to see everyone looking so smart in their uniforms. A few reminders: •       Please feel free to drop outgrown uniform donations off at the school office. They need to be in a good, clean  condition. •       They will then  be put on our “Nothing Rail” in the entrance hall. It offers free clean, donated uniform items to support sustainable clothing in our school.

Hot Weather Precautions Please ensure children come to school with sun hats, water bottles, and sunscreen during hot weather.  We are very privileged to have aircon in our school and have been able to borrow portable aircon units from Charnwood College to ensure our Cherry Class remains comfortable for the children.  It is looking like our last two weeks are going to be full of changeable weather.

Final Week Attendance The last week of term is packed with exciting activities and celebrations — please make sure your child attends so they don’t miss out!

Class Photos & Memories Our school class photos look amazing — a wonderful way to capture memories of the year. These can be ordered to school and will arrive before the end of term. Copies will soon be in the reception area to view.

Book & iPad Returns All school books and iPads must be returned by Monday 6th July as the school will be auditing them and updating the iPad over the summer holidays.

Staff Updates As the school year comes to a close, we are sad to say goodbye to Mrs. Reed and Miss Sutton who have both been fantastic in their roles over the years at Booth Wood Academy.  Their dedication, warmth, and hard work have made a real difference to our school community. We thank them sincerely for everything they’ve contributed and wish them all the very best in their next adventures!

BRAND NEW HOLIDAY CLUB - SUMMER HOLIDAYS Please see the flyer at the end of the newsletter to a brand new holiday club which will be running at Booth Wood Academy over the Summer Holidays when Mr Wolfe's club is not on. It is a great new club being run by Miss Wolfe to support children's creativity!

Enriching our children's lives

Thank You for a Fantastic Sports Day! A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our school sports days! We were lucky that the rain passed over the Key Stage 1 morning and then the  beautiful weather came out for the Key Stage 2 morning. The  children gave it their all — from fun novelty races to the more serious challenges like attempting to break the school long jump and sprint records. This year was special again as Mrs Lowdon awarded two pupils with  the Sebastian Lowdon Inspirational Sportsperson of the Year Award, a touching tribute to Mrs. Lowden’s son, Sebastian, who sadly passed away two years ago. These awards celebrate courage, determination, and the spirit of sportsmanship. The recipients of the awards were Marley year 1 and Terence year 6. It was lovely to see the  Year 5/6 Boys’ and Year 5/6 Girls Sprints  The winners  were Reuben year 6 and Filey Year 5. They received medals, and their names will be proudly inscribed on the school cups, which will remain on display as a lasting legacy. Thank you once again for your support — the children were absolutely brilliant, and the atmosphere was full of joy, encouragement, and community spirit!

Nevill Holt Huge congratulations to our three pupils for their performance at the Nevill Holt Festival — what an incredible opportunity to showcase their talents in front of peers, parents, and TRUST members. The poetry workshop and the performance of The Door was magical. It's always inspiring to see young people express themselves creatively and confidently on such a platform. Our choir were lucky enough to be invited to an afternoon event where they performed a number of Sea Shanties with other schools. The afternoon was glorious and families that attended benefited from free garden and art tours that took place.

Booth Woods Got Talent This month’s Booth Wood’s Got Talent was an unforgettable celebration of creativity and courage! From amazing Bollywood Dancing, fun magic acts and comedy  shows, dazzling gymnastics, impressive sports displays, and brilliant singing — the variety and talent on show were simply amazing. Every child who took part was a star! A huge well done to all our performers for their hard work and bravery. We’re already looking forward to next year’s show!

Culture and Diversity Day

A fantastic day was enjoyed by all pupils during our Culture and Diversity Day. The children had the opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures, homelands, traditions, and what makes each of them unique. It was wonderful to see such a vibrant array of food, PowerPoint presentations, traditional clothing, and cultural displays being shared across the school. Many children said they came away with a better understanding of one another, with several describing it as the “best day ever!”—a truly memorable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Smart, Sustainable, and Supportive: Our School Uniform Update It’s always a joy to see our pupils looking so smart in their school uniforms — it really sets a positive tone for learning. This year, the  coloured PE T-shirts were a brilliant addition, especially on Sports Day, giving each team a strong sense of identity and unity. As part of our commitment to being environmentally conscious, we’re proud to offer a “Nothing Rail” in the school’s front entrance hall. Families are welcome to take any clean, donated uniform items — completely free of charge. It’s a simple way we can support each other and reduce waste. If you have any good-quality uniform items your child has outgrown, we would be very grateful for your donations. Please note: •       Only unbranded items or those with the new school logo will be accepted. •       Items with the old logo will not be used. Please note: there are a few children who are wearing light blue polo shirts. Can I please remind parents that this was changed to white or navy blue in previous years. https://www.boothwoodacademy.co.uk/Uniform/

Omoggle App If you do hear any children talking about this app, please be aware of the nature of this online software.   'What is Omoggle? Omoggle is a new anonymous video chat site where users are paired with strangers and rated on their appearance by an AI algorithm. It's become a popular platform within the "mogging" trend where people are compared and ranked based on their looks - which has been growing quickly across platforms like Twitch and TikTok.    Why is it a concern? The site's anonymous nature means young people can end up in an unmoderated space being judged on how they look, with no oversight. This kind of content is linked to body image issues, low self-esteem, and bullying, and it's particularly concerning for younger, more impressionable users.    How has you Home Filter been updated? It maybe worth as parents adding ‘Omoggle’ to your  ' Adult Content' category if you can or putting a block on the website.

Supporting SEND Children Over the Summer Holidays

The summer holidays are a wonderful time for rest, fun, and family, but they can also bring challenges for children with SEND due to changes in routine and environment. With a little planning, the break can be both enjoyable and supportive. Maintaining some structure can be very helpful. Simple daily routines—such as regular times for meals, activities, and bedtime—can provide a sense of security and predictability. Visual supports such as timetables, calendars, or checklists can help children understand what to expect each day. Preparing children in advance for outings or changes in routine can also reduce anxiety. It’s important to balance activities with downtime. Sensory breaks, quiet spaces, or calm activities like reading, drawing, or listening to music can help children regulate and recharge. Where possible, continue to practise key skills in a fun and relaxed way. This could include reading together, counting during everyday activities, or communication through play. Finally, remember to celebrate the small successes and focus on what your child enjoys. Building on interests can boost confidence and make learning feel natural and enjoyable. We hope you have a happy, safe, and relaxing summer!

Reminders and New Information

Holiday Bookings – A Gentle Reminder

As the rain sets in again, I’m sure many of us are already dreaming of brighter, warmer days ahead! If you are starting to think about booking a holiday, can we please kindly remind families to book trips during the school holidays and not in term time. We are very fortunate in Leicestershire, as our school holidays often begin earlier than many other parts of the country, particularly at Easter, Summer and October. This means families can often benefit from cheaper holiday prices simply by travelling when our term dates allow. This year, we have a two‑week break in October, giving families:

  • an earlier start to the holiday period
  • the chance to take advantage of mid‑week, lower‑cost deals (e.g., Tuesday–Tuesday or Wednesday–Wednesday)
  • more flexibility when planning trips abroad or UK breaks

Your child’s education is extremely important to us, and regular attendance makes a significant difference to their progress. At the same time, we fully appreciate the value of exploring new places, learning about different cultures, and enjoying experiences that broaden children’s horizons. This is one of the reasons we have built in a longer break in October—to support families in being able to enjoy holidays without children missing learning time. Thank you for working with us to support both excellent attendance and wonderful family experiences.
