Year 9 Theatre Trip

This week all of Year 9 went to London to watch the stunning production of Guys and Dolls at The Bridge Theatre. With brilliant acting, dancing and singing performances, this show is completely unique, as the audience are not just sat watching the performance, but are moving around the theatre part of the action and at times, interacting with the cast - Mr Hougham even had his drink stolen by a cast member!

This immersive experience is thrilling and exhilarating and at the end, the whole show turns into a dance party with the cast dancing with the audience. Everyone had a fantastic evening and highly recommend this production.

Honours Programme Assembly

In Wednesday's Honours Programme Assembly, Years 9, 10 and 11 heard all about the different elements of the Honours Programme from Mrs Gillings and the Upper Sixth students who took part last year. Mrs Gillings and Mrs Oogarah then presented the Upper Sixth students with their certificates for the elements of the programme that they completed last year. Well done to everyone.

HALO Lecture

The first HALO of the year took place on Monday with a lecture, entitled "Your Sleep & You" delivered by Mrs Johnson. She focused on the importance of good sleep, the science of why sleep is important and steps we can take to improve our sleep.

"I learned so much new information on sleep." Elodie, Y8
"We learned cool facts. I didn't realise we needed to sleep for 10 hours." Willow, Year 8

"I learned you need ten hours of sleep." Ava, Year 8

Year 10 Geography Trip

Year 10 Geographers spent the day exploring the ancient woodland of Ashburnham. They had a talk by an ecologist, a lichen specialist, and food forest expert. The students helped establish a food forest by planting gooseberries and honey berries. They investigated the health of the river through pond dipping. This helped develop an overall understanding of how important a balanced ecosystem is.

"Ashburnham is an exceptional place to immerse yourself in the wonders of nature. Located in the heart of the countryside, it offers a unique opportunity to explore diverse ecosystems and understand the importance of geography to all KC students. I found this experience very intriguing and it really changed my perspective on the world around me." Mya, Year 10
"During the trip to Ashburnham, we were surrounded by woodland and had a lot of fun. As we walked along the trail, we saw different types of animal footprints and bugs. The experience was fascinating and was a wonderful place to visit." Hailie, Year 10

Theme of the Week

As part of last week's "Theme of the Week", Respect, 7 JAMES created posters and some of the girls presented their ideas to the rest of the form. A particular mention goes to Sophie, who did a brilliant job presenting hers in a very clear and professional way.

A Level Drama

Upper Sixth student, Amelie, is studying set design as part of her A Level Drama and Theatre Studies course. Her research of the Suffragettes led her to design and create a pair of hands out of wooden sticks and masking tape resembling the restrictions placed on women in the 20th century. She is planning on using the Suffragette colours of purple, green and white to hang from the sticks to symbolise women fighting back against the constraints placed on them at the time.

Amelie is planning on hanging the pair of hands from the lighting rig in the Drama Studio and is developing ideas to create a spider’s web of string attaching the hands to the studio walls and the rest of the set. Her design will be marked and will contribute towards her A Level Drama grade.

Soroptimist Club

This week the Soroptimist Club made a start on their new programme of mentoring and leadership skills by enjoying an icebreaker game and making lavender bags. Everyone found this activity very therapeutic and is looking forward to using their lavender bags.

Sixth Form Pizza & Quiz Evening

Keeping with tradition for the beginning of the Autumn Term, Upper Sixth students, Piper and Poppy, organised a fantastic pizza and quiz evening for the rest of the Sixth Form on Thursday. Tilley was packed with students as well as staff, who wanted to test their quizzing skills. After the pizza and drinks, the girls worked in groups trying to answer the six rounds of questions.

Despite the rain, the evening was really fun and filled with lots of laughter!

Year 10 Dance

The new Year 10 GCSE Dance students are leading our Years 7, 8 and 9 Junior Dance Company. This week we had the very talented Phoebe in charge of the group, taking the register and leading the warm up and the start of a new dance that will be rehearsed ready for the Dance Showcase in February. Well done Phoebe.

Business Studies Visitor

Years 10, 11 and Upper Sixth Business Studies students were joined today by visitor, Chloe Simmons, founder of Do4Kidz Danceworks. Chloe shared her journey of starting a small business from scratch, emphasising the importance of resilience, creativity and adaptability in entrepreneurship. Her anecdotes about overcoming challenges resonated deeply with the students, demonstrating that setbacks and negative comments can be stepping stones to success. Chloe's passion and practical advice left students motivated and equipped with actionable tips for pursuing their own ventures.
