Adams Update April 17, 2024

Every day is a great day at Adams!

Bi-weekly Newsletter

Solar Eclipse

Third graders enjoyed watching the various phases of the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024. They were able to observe 96% coverage using their eclipse glasses. Some students thought the solar ring was awesome. Others said it was special because eclipses don't happen very often. True science, right outside our front door!!

Flight - Project Lead the Way

Third graders had fun learning about flight through our Project Lead The Way curriculum. In order for a plane to take off, thrust has to overcome drag, and lift has to overcome weight. They also learned about balanced and unbalanced forces. The students made paper airplanes and gliders and tested them to see how far they would fly.

Mr. Howson, the father of Brady and Sawyer, came to speak to Mrs. Curtis' class about flight. He is a pilot for Dow Chemical and flies domestically and internationally. He taught the students more about flight and the different types of planes he flies. One of their planes flies at 51,000 feet and can go 600 mph. Each student received a small glider plane to fly and an airplane keychain from Mr. Howson. It was a wonderful visit to wrap up our Flight science unit.

Fire Safety

Firefighters from the Midland Fire Department have been visiting Kindergarten and first-grade classrooms monthly to teach students about fire safety. As a wrap-up experience, students were able to learn all about the firetruck and even spray the firehose!

2nd/3rd Grade Robotics

On Saturday, April 13th, three 2nd and 3rd grade robotics teams from Adams participated in the Charged-Up Festival, a chance for them to showcase the projects they had worked on this season and see demonstrations from the middle and high school robotics teams. This year's theme was "Masterpiece," each team worked together to pick a hobby to represent through their LEGO build. The Adams Atomic Programmers built a representation of drone racing with various obstacles and styles of drones. The Adams Atomic Builders had a science theme with a zipline and a scientist singing about science facts. The Adams Atomic Engineers chose reading as their hobby and had different stations for book genres, including fantasy, mysteries, and historical books. All three teams enjoyed the opportunity to interact with other teams and cheer each other on to end the season. Thanks to everyone who helped out this year to make this possible!

Family Game Night

The PTO-sponsored Family Game Night brought Adams families together for an evening filled with fun and laughter.

Chippewa Nature Center Field Trip

The first graders enjoyed a visit from the Chippewa Nature Center on Tuesday. They got to learn about the adaptations of reptiles and amphibians and even got to pet some live animals!

We are continuing to build our relationship skills this April and are grateful for the ongoing, year-long efforts made by staff and students alike to foster a sense of belonging in our classrooms and school. Every day truly is a great day at Adams!

Congratulations to the following students for being recognized for their outstanding relationship skills in March:

  • K: Bronson Wynia
  • 1: Addison Grillo, Erik Robb
  • 3: Jayden Sentz
  • 4: Evelyn Bogman

Parking Lot Reminders

  • The entrance to the parking lot is two lanes. There is not a middle passing lane.
  • Pull forward as far as possible (just not into the bus lane by the flagpole) when you are along the drop-off/pick-up lane.
  • Have your children enter/exit the car on the passenger side directly onto the sidewalk.
  • Do not park and get out of your vehicle on the road or in the pick-up/drop-off line. If you are walking your child to the school, please park in the parking lot first.
  • Continue to give each other grace and patience in the parking lot. It models patience, care, and leadership for our students and helps to keep everyone safe. Thank you!

Lost and Found

Unclaimed items are donated at the end of each semester.

Students should check the lost and found periodically. We have accumulated many misplaced items such as jackets, water bottles, lunch boxes, and other personal belongings. Please label your child's belongings to help us quickly return them to their owners.

Community Programs

We want to be sure that our families are aware of the community programs available to those needing assistance. At this time, the following programs are available to Adams students/families:

  • Report each student individually. Do not enter additional students in the notes section.
  • For each absence reported, parents/guardians must provide a detailed note explaining the reason. If you report your student as sick, please list the symptoms your student is experiencing. The note will help school attendance staff select the correct attendance code.
  • If you have a legal or medical document, please upload it with the absence, or provide it to the school attendance staff upon your student's return. Parents/guardians can still call to report an absence at 989-923-6037.
