ARTISTIC Statement
My artistry is rooted in a deep appreciation for the transformative power of creativity and a personal journey defined by growth, resilience, and discovery. For 15 years, I trained as a classical ballet dancer, immersing myself in a discipline that demanded precision, grace, and emotional restraint. While this foundation instilled in me principles of discipline and elegance, it also revealed the confines of perfectionism in art. My time at Howard University opened my eyes to a broader perspective, challenging me to embrace change, explore vulnerability, and uncover my authentic voice.
To me, the arts are far more than a vehicle for expression; they are a voice for freedom, a platform for truth, and a catalyst for change. Through my experiences in acting, stage management, and diction, I have learned that art’s most profound impact lies in its ability to connect with humanity. It is not about polished perfection but about authenticity—art that celebrates imperfection, reflects life’s complexities, and challenges societal norms. I have come to see my vulnerability not as a flaw but as my greatest strength—a bridge for building connections, sparking conversations, and inspiring others to share their own stories.
As an artist, I am committed to championing diversity and inclusion within the arts. I strive to amplify underrepresented voices, dismantle traditional narratives, and create spaces where all forms of expression are valued and celebrated. I believe the arts hold a unique power to unify and empower communities, and I am dedicated to fostering this connection by sharing stories that transcend boundaries and resonate deeply.
My goal is not just to create art but to create change—to use my voice and creativity to inspire, challenge, and uplift others. By embracing both the discipline of my training and the authenticity of my evolving perspective, I hope to shape a future where the arts are a beacon of truth, freedom, and boundless possibility.
