Stones, Idols, and the 10 Commandments Our Savior Hawaii Sunday School

Welcome

It's the season the of Lent. For 40 days (plus Sundays), we make our way to the cross of Good Friday and empty grave of Easter. Each Sunday of the season, we'll hear what God's Word says about stones and rocks and what they teach us about Jesus and our need for a Savior.

Today, we hear a reminder to worship only God. Two stone tablets, the 10 Commandments, tell us that we should have no other gods and should not bow to idols.

Scripture

How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? Psalm 4:2 NIV
Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things. Phil. 3:19 NIV

Talk

How do the Bible verses and story go together? How can we show Jesus is our number 1? What might we be tempted to turn into an idol in our own lives?

Engage

Make a space in your home for Jesus time. This could be a small table or family altar. Create a purple parament for the space. A parament is a piece of decorative fabric often used in worship spaces.

Pray

Pray: Dear Jesus, You are the one true God. We're sorry for the time we disobey your commandments. Help us to put you first each and every day. Thank you for forgiving and loving us when we fail. Amen.
