Subscription Access

All Auburn students, faculty, and staff have access to Adobe Creative Cloud at no additional cost; visit adobe.auburn.edu. Students can access Express automatically but need to request access to all the other Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Adobe Stock, mobile apps such as Aero, and more. Faculty and staff have automatic access to all of the Adobe Creative Cloud. For instructors, this link is listed as a resource in Canvas as an add-on: Canvas, Settings, Navigation, Adobe Creative Cloud, Save.

Adobe Creative Cloud apps for creating AR/VR

Adobe Aero: This is the primary Adobe tool for creating augmented reality (AR) experiences. Aero allows you to design, share, and view interactive AR content without needing to code. You can import assets from other Adobe apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, and Substance 3D, and add interactivity such as animations and spatial audio. Learn more and Learn how to use Aero

Adobe Photoshop: Photoshop allows you to create and edit 360-degree images, which can be used in VR environments. You can paint, composite, and manipulate these images to create immersive scenes. Learn more

  • You can import your Photoshop files (PSD) into Adobe Aero and creatively space out the layers to add depth to your AR experiences. This can make your artwork come alive in a new way.
  • Photoshop's powerful image editing capabilities can be used to create textures and assets for AR and VR projects. These assets can then be imported into other Adobe tools like Aero or After Effects to build interactive experiences.

Adobe Illustrator allows you to apply 3D effects like Extrude, Revolve, and Inflate to your 2D vector artwork. These effects can add depth and dimension to your designs. Learn more

  • Illustrator: Lighting and Materials: You can enhance your 3D objects with realistic lighting and materials sourced from Adobe Substance This helps create lifelike textures and shadows.
  • Mapping Artwork: Illustrator lets you map your existing 2D artwork onto the surfaces of 3D objects. This is useful for creating detailed and customized 3D designs.

Project Neo (Beta): Illustrator's Project Neo (Beta) allows you to build 3D artwork and bring it into Illustrator for further refinement. Learn more

Adobe Premiere Pro: For VR video editing, Premiere Pro supports 180 and 360-degree video formats. You can edit immersive videos, add effects, and refine your footage to create engaging VR experiences. Learn more

Adobe After Effects: This tool is great for adding motion graphics and visual effects to your VR videos. You can create complex animations and integrate them into your VR projects to enhance the immersive experience. Learn more

Technology Lending Equipment

360 camera

These Adobe apps, combined with the equipment available for checkout such as 360 cameras through the Innovation & Research Commons' Technology Lending, make it easier to create compelling AR and VR content, whether you're working on interactive storytelling, virtual exhibits, or immersive training simulations.

Adobe Substance 3D apps

The Adobe Substance 3D suite provides a comprehensive set of tools for 3D creation, from modeling and texturing to staging and rendering.

Adobe Substance 3D Modeler: This tool allows you to sculpt 3D models using digital clay, making the process intuitive and natural. You can work both on desktop and in VR. Learn more ; supported VR headsets

Adobe Substance 3D Designer: This app is used for creating procedural textures and materials. You can design complex materials and patterns that can be applied to 3D models Learn more

Adobe Substance 3D Stager: Stager helps you stage and render 3D scenes, allowing you to visualize and create photorealistic images and animations. Learn more

Adobe Substance 3D Sampler: This tool lets you capture and create 3D materials from real-life photos, generating assets that can be used in your 3D projects. Learn more

Adobe Capture

Adobe Capture mobile app

Adobe Capture is a versatile mobile app that can assist in creating 3D assets for AR and VR projects. Learn more

  • Pattern Creation: You can use Adobe Capture to create seamless patterns from photos, which can be used as textures in 3D models.
  • Color Themes: Capture allows you to extract color themes from images, which can be applied to your 3D assets to ensure consistent and appealing color schemes.
  • Shapes and Brushes: You can convert photos into vector shapes and custom brushes, which can be used in other Adobe apps like Photoshop and Illustrator to create detailed and unique 3D textures.
  • Materials: Capture can generate materials from photos, which can be imported into Adobe Substance 3D Painter or Designer to texture your 3D models.
  • Learn more about integrating into 3D

Adobe Firefly

using a reference image in Firefly

Use Adobe Firefly to create a 3D effect in your text to images in Adobe Express or Adobe Firefly. Adobe Firefly is also integrated into Photoshop and Illustrator. Adobe has integrated Firefly's generative AI capabilities into its Substance 3D apps, such as Sampler and Stager. These features allow artists to generate textures and backgrounds using text prompts, making the creation of 3D materials and environments more efficient and creative. Learn more
