Introducing our New Faculty By Arjun srivastava, helena lai, eli gertsberg, kate azano

Mr. Loud is a new science teacher at BB&N. Before here, he was teaching in the summer at NMH. He came to BB&N because he was really drawn to the science department in general and the people were very welcoming. “Definitely the whole science department” he said, after being asked who helped settle at BB&N. Mr. Loud said that the reason he became a teacher was because he gets a lot of energy from being around other people. His favorite sport is either soccer or ultimate frisbee, and his favorite vacay spot is Cape Cod. His favorite song is “The Byrds Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere”, and his room being messy is his biggest pet peeve. Another fact about Mr. Loud is that his favorite book is “The Guardians of Ga’Hoole series”. A summer highlight for him is seeing his younger brothers when he was teaching near home. The best snack on a snowy day is a hot cider in his opinion, and he looks forward to being more involved in the community this school year. If he were to have only one tool from your classroom, it would be a pendulum. To deal with misbehaving students, he has a friendly conversation with them about how he can help them and how they can help him. His strengths are “hopefully being patient”, as he said, and his weaknesses are keeping all of his information stored in one place. He says that his least favorite subject depends on the teacher. Lastly, his thoughts on Taylor Swift are “I’m tired of everyone talking about her during class.”

Mr. Moyo came to BB&N from Lawrence Academy in Groton MA. He came seeking a prominent community and more student interaction. Even more so, he came in search of a challenge. As a History teacher, when discussing the curriculum, he said “Most curriculums are mostly Eurocentric.” On learning about Latin America, he added, "We really get to focus on a specific region that not a lot of people are familiar with. We usually only hear of it from an immigration standpoint.” After school, you’ll find him coaching the Boy’s Gold soccer team at Grove Street. Later in the day, long after work, you might even see him, at the theater, watching his favorite movie, Stepbrothers.

Ms. Selover came to BB&N from Kent Denver in Colorado. Some of her interests are running and tree skiing. She came to BB&N because while she was in school in Boston she always admired BB&N both as a school and as a community! Ms. Selover became a teacher because she wanted a challenging profession, had creative freedom, tons of reading and writing and no day would be the same. This is her 20th year teaching and loves teaching English when asked why she loves teaching she responded “because every year is different and the students passion stays the same.” She says she absolutely loves BB&N and want’s to give a shout out to the students and other English teachers. Some facts abouts Ms. Selover are, if she could teach anywhere it would be either in the LLC or outside and if she could only have one tool in the classroom it would be her laptop. Her favorite movies are the Taylor Swift movie, anything historical, and anything based on a book! Her favorite food is sushi and she listens to all kinds of music! Ms. Selover's biggest pet peeve in the classroom is when people are unkind or just unkindness in general and her biggest pet peeve out of the classroom is people chewing loudly. Her summer highlight this year was moving to Boston and her tenth annual Martha's Vineyard trip! In Colorado her favorite place to ski was beaver creek but doesn’t know where to ski in Massachusetts so if you have any places you love she would love to know!

Ms. Magner came to BB&N from a school near the Potomac in Washington D.C. Ms Magner had known about BB&N for a while, and she came here because of the kind and welcoming community. When she logged onto her first Zoom meeting with the people at BB&N, she instantly felt warmth and kindness, even from across the screen. Also, when Ms. Magner started teaching, she found that the students were super helpful and are just as welcoming as the teachers. Here at BB&N, Ms. Magner teaches math, and she loves it. Although the new curriculum is a bit different than the one she used to teach, she still finds that a lot of students here love math, and she continues practicing her approach that she developed as a math teacher: making sure everyone learns math their way so that no one is left behind. She created this approach because as a middle schooler, she didn’t really like math because of the way it was taught that made many students dislike math. Ms. Magner’s favorite movie is Beaches from 1988, her Summer highlight was moving from D.C to here, and her favorite songs are made by the Lumineers. Finally, Ms. Magner’s favorite part of math is Algebra, mainly because it is the foundation for all other math, which is why she feels so lucky to teach Middle School math.
