Year 4 Newsletter Autumn 2 2025

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

We hope you have had a lovely half term week and have been able to enjoy some quality time with your children. The children have settled very quickly back into Year 4 and are enjoying the extra responsibilities that being the oldest children in our school have.

Below is some information which we hope will be useful to introduce you to what we will be learning this half-term. We have included an overview of what we will be studying across the curriculum.

We hope this newsletter answers any immediate questions, but please do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns and we will be more than happy to help.

Many thanks,

Erin Campbell, Fiona Jones and Gary Burnett

Reading

The children will read for 15 minutes at the start of the day, 20 minutes at the end of the day and will read individually as often as possible. It is very important that they read on a daily basis at home, too. Please make sure your child has their book and planner every day so that they are ready to read and please record reading at home. We check the planners each week so that we can see what the children have read. If the children have finished the school’s reading scheme, then they are welcome to choose books to read from the free readers’ section of the Library or alternatively, a suitable book from home. Thank you to the parents that have kindly volunteered their time to listen to the children reading. If anymore parents/grandparents/carers are able to come into school each week to hear children read, this support would be greatly appreciated. Please let us know if you would like to help!

PE

Our PE lessons continue to take place on a Wednesday afternoon and a Friday morning. At the start of each PE lesson, the children will be required to get changed so we would be very grateful if PE kits could be kept in school for easy access. It can get quite chilly outside so extra layers like sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers/leggings are useful to keep in PE bags.

Times Tables

Times tables continue to be a big focus for us in Year 4. Children are becoming more confident in knowing their multiplication facts and their accuracy and recall continues to improve. If you could also encourage the children to use Times Tables Rockstars, Hit the Button and Maths Frame at home then that would also be fantastic. The logins for Times Table Rockstars are stuck in the front of their school planners. You can access the Maths Frame practise test, here: https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/resource/477/Multiplication-Tables-Check

Homework

Homework will continue to be set on a Friday in homework folders which the children will bring home and return to school by the following Tuesday. We have been very impressed by the effort that you have all put into your homework so far, this term! The activities are set to support learning in class and is matched to the children’s abilities.

Spellings

Children continue to bring spellings home to learn each week. Their spelling test is on a Tuesday morning and this is when they will be given their new spellings, too. These will be written in their planners and are set using the National Curriculum spelling rules for Key Stage Two.

Christmas

You are invited to attend our Christmas performance on Thursday 11th December at 9am. Children will be working hard in rehearsals over the next half term and we cannot wait to get into the festive spirit with you! Children will also be bringing their lines and song lyrics home to learn and we would really appreciate it if you could support your child in practising these.
