Principal Report
Dear Families,
It has been wonderful to welcome our students and families back to school following the recent devastating floods across the Mid North Coast. We are deeply aware of the impact these events have had on many of our families, and I want to commend our community for the resilience and care you continue to show during such challenging times.
Our primary focus since returning to school has been on student wellbeing and helping children feel safe, connected and supported. The first few days back have centred around re-establishing routines, providing a calm and predictable environment, and creating opportunities for students to reconnect with peers and staff.
To ease the transition, we have incorporated a range of wellbeing-focused activities, including shared cooking experiences. These sessions not only supported families with food needs but also provided a wonderful way for students to collaborate, communicate, and enjoy the sense of belonging that comes from working and eating together.
It has been heartwarming to see the smiles on faces, the friendships rekindled, and the strong sense of community that underpins everything we do at Kinchela Public School. Moving forward, we will continue to prioritise wellbeing alongside learning, and we encourage families to reach out if additional support is needed during this time.
Thank you again for your ongoing partnership. Together, we will continue to support our students through recovery and towards a positive and successful second half of the term.
External Validation 2025 - Excellence Recognised at KPS
This term, Kinchela Public School took part in the NSW Department of Education’s External Validation process — a reflective and rigorous opportunity for schools to showcase their progress and impact.
As part of this process, we provided evidence aligned to the School Excellence Framework, which helps all NSW public schools evaluate their practice across three key domains: Learning, Teaching, and Leading. The framework includes 14 elements that reflect what effective schools do to ensure continuous improvement in student outcomes.
The independent panel confirmed that KPS is sustaining and growing in every element — with several areas recognised as excelling. They were genuinely impressed by the quality of our teaching and learning practices, our strong sense of wellbeing, and our clear systems and processes.
One of the most heartening pieces of feedback was that the panel felt an immediate positive and welcoming atmosphere the moment they stepped onto our school grounds. They were amazed by the strength of our results and the depth of our programs — even stating that if they hadn’t known our size, they would have assumed we were a large school of hundreds based on the calibre of evidence and impact we shared.
We are incredibly proud of this achievement. It reflects the collective efforts of our students, staff, and community. As we now begin shaping our next School Improvement Plan, we will continue to focus on building student wellbeing and strengthening our use of data to support every learner.
Thank you for being part of our journey — your ongoing support helps make KPS the amazing place it is.
Warm regards,
Ms Cummins, Principal
Lower North Coast Cross Country
Congratulations to Evie, Will, and Archer who represented Kinchela Public School at the Lower North Coast Cross Country last week. All three students showed outstanding determination and sportsmanship on the day. A special mention goes to Will, who placed 7th in a highly competitive field and is now the first reserve for the next round. We are so proud of your efforts and the way you all represented our school!

Our K-2 class have just completed their first booklet, with a total of 23 words. Students can now identify words based around kinship, family occasions and instructional words. We will now begin new booklets to learn words regarding stories and special occasions.
The 3-6 class have also completed their first booklet for this year. So far this year they have learnt around 30 words. They are now about to learn new words regarding the environment (country).
K-2 Class News
Our young learners have been on an exciting phonics journey engaging in plenty of word work to help students segment sounds and encode them into their writing.
Early-Stage 1 students have been revising Level 1 (S/A/T/P/I/N) and Level 2 (M/D/G/O/C/K/E/U/R) phonemes while Stage 1 students have been revising Level 5 long vowel sounds (a/e/i/o/u) with a focus on the vowel teams: ai/ay - ea/ee - ie/igh - oa/ow and ew/ue.
Through fun activities and games, students are building their confidence in recognising and manipulating phonemes, setting a strong foundation for their literacy skills in reading and writing.
APPRECIATION POST: Thank you to parents for your support with home reading. It has been wonderful to see the progress students are making with the extra practise.
*Don’t forget to access the Decodable Readers Australia online books and activities if you are looking for some extra resources. Keep an eye out next week for a segmenting kit in your child’s home reading folder. *Simple instructions will be included so you can get the most out of the resource. 😊
Class 3-6
What a great first week back at school after the floods! It was fantastic to see all the students return with big smiles and a lot of energy for learning.
A highlight in our first week back after being non-operational was a visit from the Hazardous Area Rescue Ambulance (HARA) team 🚑. The students loved getting a look inside their specialised ambulance and learning about how emergency services can still reach us during floods, fires, and other natural disasters.
We spent time cooking up a storm for students, and also welcomed our local firefighters into the school to enjoy some home cooked food.
