Phonics is well under way and the children have been loving listening to The Tiger Who Came to Tea by Judith Kerr. We have some very enthusiastic writers who say that one day they will be able to write their own books! For now.. they have been practising writing their names and forming letters following the RWI programme.
These are the sounds we have been learning over the past few weeks. All children should be able to read the sound and write the letter. If your child isn't quite there yet, please help them with extra practise at home.
We have created a 'story map' (pictures that retell a story) of the Tiger Who Came to Tea and are in the process of learning how to retell the story. This helps the children to build new vocabulary and also lays the foundations ready for writing key words from the story next week.
We have been playing with the maths concepts 'same' and 'different'. This has been through group lessons and during play.
Time to play is extremely important when you are four. Not only because it's fun but developmentally the children need to explore building language skills, social skills and physical skills (to mention a few). A few parents have been curious about the structure of our day so here is a copy of our timetable. Further information about curriculum can be found on the school website under the Early Years tab.
And on that note, I'll leave you with some photos of the wonderful play the children have been involved in this week...
