Penny Miller-nelson named next superintendent of MIDland Public Schools

Following a superintendent search, Interim Superintendent Penny Miller-Nelson has been selected by the Midland Public Schools Board of Education as the next Superintendent, effective July 1, 2024.

At the Midland Public Schools Board of Education Special Meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the Board voted to appoint Penny Miller-Nelson as Superintendent. Penny is currently serving as the Interim Superintendent of MPS, a role she has been in since July of 2023, following the retirement of Michael Sharrow. Prior to her role as Interim Superintendent, Penny was the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment (CIA).

Penny joined the MPS team in 2008 as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator. She then transitioned to the position of CTE Coordinator and Science Coordinator for the district, followed by Secondary Curriculum Coordinator for Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Following this position, Penny began her role as the Associate Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment (CIA) in 2018.

In addition to her professional connection to Midland Public Schools, Penny is also the parent of an MPS graduate, serves on numerous boards in the community, and has lived and worked in Midland for many years, strengthening her commitment to MPS and its stakeholders.

Penny is excited and eager to permanently transition to the role of Superintendent and would like to share this with MPS and the Midland community:

"I am committed to working collaboratively with our students, staff, families, and community partners to continue fostering a culture of inclusion and equity that will ensure student success. I look forward to leading MPS from the excellent district that it already is to the exceptional district that we can build together." - Penny Miller-Nelson
