Message from the Leadership Team

As we settle into the new school year, we want to take a moment to congratulate all our students on their smooth transition back to school life. It has been wonderful to see everyone embracing their new routines and taking full advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead. Establishing these routines is crucial for academic success and personal growth and it's a pleasure to see everyone grasping these opportunities with both hands! As you’ll have been reading in our newsletters, you’ll see that we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and we are committed to creating diverse opportunities that enrich our students' learning experiences.

We had a wonderful evening this Thursday celebrating the achievements of our Key Stage Three and Four students based on nominations from their teachers last academic year. Individual subjects nominated students who have been exceptional in their achievement, effort or progress within their disciplines. We have so many brilliant students at Noadswood, it is always a hotly contested nominations process. We’d like to congratulate each and every student for their dedication to their studies, with a special shout out to Miss Skinner and Miss Rawlinson for their superb organisation alongside year leaders!

In the spirit of congratulations, we always want to spotlight the contributions and achievements of our wonderful staff. As we mentioned in last week's Newsletter, Mr West and the Redwood team were nominated for a Celebrating Neurodiversity Award and himself and the team won the Neurodiversity Champion Award. The full details of this can now be seen here: Inclusive Education Provider - Genius WithinThis is a wonderful achievement for the team and reflects their dedication and work for each and every Redwood student!

We are really pleased to be able to invite Year 7 families to our Meet the Tutor event which takes place on Thursday 17th October 2023 between 4.00pm and 6.45pm. It is a great opportunity for you to meet your child’s tutor and find out how the first month or so has gone, with some information from tutor..

The event takes place at Noadswood, in your child’s tutor room, and booking opens for this on Friday 11th October 2022 at 8pm via School Cloud

A separate communication has been with further support and details for year 7 families but we look forward to seeing families next week.

This year we will have five wear something different days that we will be organising this academic year. For those parents that are new to Noadswood, this is where students can come to school in full non-school uniform, or just wear one thing different from normal. All we ask is that students pay a £1.00 contribution to this event. We have listened to parent feedback and have given you the option this year to pay for all five wear something different days at the beginning of the year or continue to pay half termly. All students who pay their contribution will be entered into a prize draw to win one of the following (prizes are per year group):

• £3.00 meal deal voucher

• A cookie a day for 1 week

• A lunch queue skip voucher for a week

• 10 friends on the Astro for exclusive use

• 10 friends watching a film with hotdogs

For the first wear something different day on Friday 25 October, we will be raising money to support Oakhaven Hospice and Air Ambulance. This day will be themed around students and staff wearing GREEN.

We also want to address a concern that has been brought to our attention by families in Marchwood regarding the bus. We understand how important reliable transportation is for our students and families. Please be rest assured that we will be actively reaching out to Blue Star and our local councillor to explore possible solutions to these concerns.

If you are a family living in Marchwood and have additional concerns or something specific you’d like us to raise, we encourage you to reach out to us directly at erollett@noadswood.hants.sch so that we can share these.

Best wishes,

Kathryn Marshall and the Noadswood Leadership Team

Safeguarding and Signposting

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been giving lots of reminders, particularly to those students in our younger years, of appropriate and safe behaviour when using social media apps for messaging and group chats.

ChildNet provides help, advice and resources for parents and careers who are navigating their way through their child/ren’s social media use. Click the link below to find specific support on managing group chats.

Attendance

We were so pleased that our attendance in the 2023 – 2024 academic year showed some great improvements when comparing to both the year before and when making termly comparisons.

We’ve had a great start to the year with our whole school attendance sitting around the 91% (the national average for the year so far is 93%). We aim for all students to have an attendance figure of 95% or above, understanding completely the various things that can impact this figure.

A reminder then, it’s so important to talk to us as soon as your child/ren starts to struggle with coming into school. This helps us to intervene in the earliest stages and ensure the right support and interventions are in place as soon as possible.

Please speak to your child’s tutor or Year Leader team in the first instance.
