Women's Ice Hockey Opens Season with Two Shutout Victories

In their first two games of the 2023-24 season, Colby tallied a combined seven goals from six different goal scorers to begin the campaign 2-0.

In the season opener Tuesday night against Southern Maine, Meg Rittenhouse kicked off the scoring with two goals. Anna Staten tallied in the final frame to push the score to 3-0 while goaltender Grace Caligiuri was perfect in net with 24 saves.

In Sunday's matchup with Morrisville St. hosted at Sacred Heart, Sophie Melsness, Georgia Pettygrove, Beth Sinson, and Maria Pierce all beat the Mustangs goalie to run away with a 4-0 victory. Caligiuri was once again stellar in net, collecting her second shutout in as many games.

The Mules unveiled their newest edition to the O'Neil | O'Donnell Forum, dropping their NCAA Tournament banner Tuesday night.

Colby is 2-0-0 on the season, eagerly anticipating their home-and-home series this coming weekend with Bowdoin. Friday night's matchup in Waterville will be a ticketed event. Follow the link below to secure your tickets!

Men’s Basketball Picks up Two Wins, Defeating Thomas and Salve Regina

The Mules bookended their Thanksgiving holiday with their third and fourth victories of the season (87-53 over Thomas Tuesday, 74-72 over Salve Regina Sunday).

Against Thomas early last week, the two teams started even until the Terriers jumped out to a nine point lead with just under nine minutes to go in the first half. Colby quickly flipped the script by going on a 28-5 run, sending the game into the half with a 45-31 advantage. The Mules stayed on top the rest of the way for their largest margin of victory of the season, and their 10th in a row against Thomas. Jack Lawson finished with 15 points and eight rebounds followed closely by Lucas Green contributing 14 points to go along with eight rebounds and five assists. Max Poulton added 12 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.

On Mayflower Hill Sunday against the Seahawks, Colby played from out in front for the duration, but Salve Regina stayed close with timely buckets and a strong run down the stretch. The Seahawks tied the game with five minutes to go in the final frame but the Mules were able to take back the lead with clutch free throws and a corner three from Liam O’Connell to hold on for a close 74-72 win. Poulton was red hot from beyond the arc, cashing in six three pointers, resulting in a career high 28 points. Lawson recorded a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds) while O’Connell finished with 12 points.

Colby is now 4-2 on the season and will take on #19 Emory Friday and Brandeis Saturday in the 2023 UAA Challenge.

Men's Ice Hockey Hits Season High with Six Goals Against Suffolk

Colby opened the Colby-Bowdoin Classic Saturday with a setback to New England College (2-0) before returning to the Jack Kelley Rink for a season-high six goals against the Rams of Suffolk University.

Five different Mules tallied goals against Suffolk. Henry Molson led the way with two, including Colby's first of the day as well as the eventual game-winner. The senior assisted on two others. John McElaney scored his first of the season, also adding two assists.

Women’s Basketball Nets Fourth Straight Victory

The Mules defeated Thomas College 62-52 Tuesday in their lone contest of the week, marking their 17th straight victory over the Terriers.

The Terriers got off to a strong start with a five point lead after the first quarter but Colby responded and took a one point lead into the halftime break. The Mules stayed in front for the final two quarters, increasing their lead to 11 after the third and executing down the stretch to secure the double-digit victory. Colby dropped 40 points in the paint compared to Thomas’ 20, while recording 13 fast break points over the Terriers three.

Kate Olenik continues to put up big numbers totaling 20 points and four steals, while fellow first-year Amelia Hanscom recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Carter McGloon chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Mules will take their 5-1 record to Castine Tuesday night taking on Maine Maritime Academy at 7:00pm.
