On Saturday, Feb. 8, protesters collected downtown Kalamazoo to protest President Donald Trump's actions on immigration. The protest started in Bronson Park then moved to Michigan Ave. During the protest, there were chants like, “No fear, no hate, no ICE in our state” and “Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here.” The crowd protested for about four hours, then dispersed.

All sorts of messages were on display, but one of the most prominent was the importance of immigrants to our economy. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, in 2023 18.6% of the U.S workforce was foreign-born.
Chants of “Say it loud, say it clear, immigrants are welcome here,” rang out as people in the crowd held up various signs in English and Spanish. “Can’t be illegal on stolen land,” was a common phrase, but others included more personalized messages.

Mass deportations are hotly debated subjects, and many people were protesting against them due to their side effects. Many people come to the U.S “just want a better life” and feel that Trump's policies limit their ability to live.
Chants like, “Power to the people, no-one is illegal,” rang out amongst the crowds. Different messages, like the importance of immigrants and the negative effects of hate were on full display.
