Nukumea Newsletter Term 1 week 2 2026

Kia ora e te whānau, and welcome back to Nukumea for 2026! A very special welcome to our new students and families who were officially welcomed in during our mihi whakatau this morning.

It has been great seeing everyone's smiling faces return (or start) at school over the past week and a half. New friends have been made and we are now settled into our routines for the year.

Breakfast Club

Our Breakfast Club has started for 2026. In the Hall between 8:30am and 8:50am each morning, students can get Weetbix for breakfast if you have not been able to fit in breakfast before leaving for school. The students love having their breakfast and connecting with each other before the school day begins.

Hero Learning Content

As you may have heard in the media, there have been some further changes to our Maths and English curriculum, alongside new requirements for assessment and reporting. To allow us time to update our Hero goals and make the required changes, the Learning Content on Hero will be turned off for Term 1. This means you won't receive any learning or class posts nor will you see changes to goals. We anticipate everything will be up and running by the start of Term 2! As always, if you have any questions about your child's learning then feel free to contact their teacher.

Community Working Bee

A massive thank you to our community volunteers who showed up on the Saturday before school began to help us out with weeding our vast garden areas. In a couple of hours, they completely filled two big garden bags and made a massive difference to how the entrance to the school is looking for our start of year. The pizzas and drinks were well appreciated at the end - so thank you to the Board for providing this as our reward.

Welcome to Zuska

As well as a bunch of new students starting with us this term, we have also been joined by Zuska. She is a Learning Assistant, mainly working with Korimako class upstairs. She brings a wealth of experience at other schools to this role and has quickly formed positive working relationships with our students here at Nukumea. Many of our students have also noticed the bright earrings that she has worn during the first week!

Hats and Sunscreen Please

A reminder that students do need to be bringing a hat to school every day during Term 1. Without a hat, they can only play in the shaded areas during morning tea and lunch. It would also be useful to have applied sunscreen before school. We have some available in class, but on hotter days, that sunscreen really needs to have been absorbed before they head outside. Let's help our kids all stay sun safe during these warmer months.

We hope you all have a great week!
