Principal's Message

Welcome to Term 3

With winter well and truly here, Term 3 is starting to shape up to be a busy and exciting one. There’s plenty to look forward to, especially our upcoming sports carnivals, which always bring great energy and excitement. We look forward to a fantastic term and warmer weather ahead.

Celebrating Professional Learning

At our recent School Development Day, staff joined with colleagues from across our network at Mount Lawley Senior High School for an engaging and inspiring session with keynote speaker Dr Justin Coulson. His presentation, Attitude is Everything, focused on how our mindset can positively impact student outcomes, the power of simple habits in transforming school culture, and strategies for managing stress and building resilience.

Later in the day, we returned to school to continue our focus on school improvement, engaging in collaborative work around our Business Plan 2026-2028 priorities and reviewing our ICT Scope and Sequence. It was a valuable day of professional learning that supports our continued commitment to whole-school growth and student success.

That evening, I also had the pleasure of attending the parent session with Dr Justin Coulson, which focused on building resilience in children by fostering strength, calm, and kindness. It was an insightful and practical session that reinforced the important role families play in supporting children's emotional wellbeing. It was wonderful to see so many North Perth parents in attendance, engaging in meaningful conversations about how we can work together to help our children thrive.

Grounds

Thank You to Our Grounds Committee

A big thank you to our dedicated parents who make up the Grounds Committee: Lisa McGann, Nadia Tamigi, Nathan Calleja, and Daniel Aleksandrow. Your time, expertise, and ongoing commitment to improving our school environment is greatly appreciated.

The team’s efforts to represent the parent community have been invaluable as we work together to create more engaging, functional, and welcoming outdoor spaces for all students.

We’re pleased to share that the ‘Heart of the School’ project has now been handed over to Programmed, who will manage the build in collaboration with the school and the committee.

This week, we also met with Mayor Alison Xamon and members of her team to discuss the delivery of a functional drop-off and pick-up zone (Kiss and Ride). Alison has expressed that she is committed to this initiative, which will benefit the whole school community. In addition, we’re continuing to explore further ways to ease parking pressures and improve safety during drop-off and pick-up times.

We are grateful for this group and their influence in shaping the future of our school grounds.

Year 6 Courtyard Update

We’d like to acknowledge and thank the group of Year 6 parents who have led this year’s fundraising efforts in support of our graduating students. Thanks to their hard work and generosity from the school community, the funds raised will contribute to the Year 6 camp and graduation activities, as well as support a lasting legacy of improvements to the Year 6 Courtyard.

Plans are underway to transform the space into a more enjoyable and inviting area for current and future students. If there are any parents with carpentry skills, we would love to speak with you!

Save the date: 20–21 September for a busy bee weekend in the senior courtyard with more details to come

Public School Review – Term 1, 2026

In Term 1, 2026, North Perth Primary will participate in its next Public School Review. This process provides assurance to the community, the Minister for Education, and the Department of Education that our school is operating effectively and delivering high-quality education. It also acknowledges our achievements and offers feedback to support future planning. As part of the review, we will undertake a self-assessment against six key domains, which will then be evaluated by a review team comprising a Department of Education director and a peer principal. The team will also conduct a site visit to gather further insights from the staff, students, board and P&C, before producing a final report highlighting our strengths and areas for improvement.

Exciting News – Compass for Parents is Coming Soon!

We’re pleased to announce that Compass, our new school management platform, will be launching soon for parents and carers. Compass will make it easier for you to stay connected with what’s happening at school.

Initially, you’ll be able to use Compass to notify the school of absences quickly and easily. Over time, we’ll be expanding its use to include payments and permissions for incursions and excursions, streamlining our communication and saving time for families.

Stay tuned for more details, including how to log in and start using Compass. We’re excited to take this step towards a more efficient and accessible school system.

French Classes - Madame Marinucci

Year 6 French Fun – Exploring Our City

During Semester One, Year 6 were diving into French vocabulary all about places in their city. Through a variety of engaging games and hands-on activities, students have not only learnt the names of different locations but also how to ask for and give directions in French. One highlight was a fun and interactive maze activity where, in pairs, students designed their own mazes and gave each other directions-in French, of course. It’s been a fantastic way to bring language learning to life while practicing speaking and listening skills.

Year 3 French – Learning through Games

Year 3 have been busy learning how to ask and say how they are feeling in French, as well as counting from 1-20. We’ve brought language to life through songs and games that make learning both fun and memorable. A class favourite was our revised version of Snakes and Ladders, which helped us to practice our numbers, a game of Memory to reinforce feelings vocabulary, and a fun round of French Loto (Bingo) to help us remember the names of different family members. The classroom has been full of energy, laughter and fantastic French learning.

Physical Education - Semester One Update - Mr Seeber

In Semester One, our Kindy students focused on developing their throwing skills through fun and engaging activities. Pre-Primary to Year 2 worked on kicking, building accuracy and control through a variety of drills and games. Students in Years 3 to 6 enjoyed learning and playing Basketball and Soccer, improving their skills, teamwork and game strategies.

The school participated in many exciting sporting events last term including the Faction Cross Country and Champion Schools Cross Country for Years 3 to 6, the Year 4 Interschool Basketball competition and the Winter Carnival for Years 5 and 6. Across all events, students demonstrated great effort, sportsmanship and school spirit. Well done to everyone who took part.

Technologies - Miss Newman

Term 2 was action packed as we continued our learning in the Design Technologies strand.

Pre Primary to 4 students continued studying how modern toys have evolved over the past 100 years in particular the materials used to make them. They worked on a design and created a mini travel game that included some 3D printed pieces and then finished the term exploring fibre, both man-made and natural. We learnt how rope is made and then turned coloured wool into a cool rope bracelet.

Year 5 and 6 students started the FEAST program which is facilitated by the Oz Harvest non-for-profit organisation. FEAST (Food Education and Sustainability Training) is a FREE 10-week curriculum-aligned education program, which explores the issue of food waste and its environmental impact, positive food choices and easy classroom cooking. Students will be creating a digital cookbook using the recipes they created for our last cooking session during Term 3 and 4.

100 Days Smarter!

On Monday 28th of July, the Pre-primary students celebrated 100 Days of School. We had a fun day full of activities relating to the number 100. We reflected on our learning from the past 100 days, wrote 100 words as a class, counted collections up to 100 and even made fairy bread using 100’s & 1000’s. Children were invited to dress up in attire relating to 100. We had a mixture of 100-year-old boys and girls, 100-day princesses and superheroes and outfits made of 100 dots, 100 glittery stars and 100 butterflies. Our first 100 days of Pre-primary has been a blast, and we are excited to many more days full of bright smiles, curious minds and exciting learning!

Buddies are back in action!

Room 9 and 14 have joined forces this year to participate in a variety of STEM, maths and reading activities. This week, the students participated in a STEM activity where they had the challenge of building the tallest tower with 8 pieces of paper and sticky tape. This task was also designed to support our current PBS focus: We embrace challenging learning tasks.

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Term 3 will see staff and students focusing on the following expectations from our Behaviour Matrix.

WINTER PRUNING

As the weather cools and olives have been picked from their trees, early winter is the perfect time to lightly prune your olive tree and prepare it for the next season. Annual pruning is important as it opens up the canopy to increase airflow, improve access, and encourage self-pollination and renewed growth, giving your tree the best chance for abundant flowers in spring and fruit in summer. Because olive trees are naturally biennial bearers, regular pruning also helps even out yields across seasons.
