First of all we would love to extend a warm welcome to all our new members of the month. We hope you have enjoyed your time here at BrownPride so far and we cant wait to see how you progress throughout the year.
It's only been two months into the year and the ball is already rolling here at BrownPride NZ. We had a few of our athletes compete in the first ever Hyrox competition held in Auckland, our Locked In (R14) Tag Team & Tone up challenge started this month, the CrossFit Open season is among us and we are also working with other organizations and schools.
You may have also noticed Coach Romeo's weekly updates on the CrossFit South Auckland instagram stories. This is to keep our members informed with what to expect in regards to the CrossFit South Auckland weekly programming. He will give a summary of what the workouts will be as well strength/conditioning pieces. If you happen to miss Romeo's weekly stories, you can always view daily programming on your influx account.
CROSSFIT OPEN SEASON 2025
The CrossFit Open has begun! The CrossFit Open is an annual global competition where participants complete a series of 3 workouts over 3 weeks, testing their overall fitness. Anyone, from beginners to elite athletes, can take part and submit their scores online. The top athletes progress to the next stages of the CrossFit Games season, including Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Games themselves. It's an opportunity for athletes to challenge themselves and be part of the worldwide CrossFit community. We have a handful of CFSA members who have registered and have completed 25.1. This year we are aiming to take at least one team to compete at Torian Pro 2025, which is held in Brisbane in May. All our athletes participating have been working hard towards this, keep up the good work team! And if this is your first time competing in the CrossFit Open, CONGRATULATIONS! ROUND 14 - LOCKED IN TAG TEAM & TONE UP CHALLENGE
We're back with running our Weight-loss challenges, and this month we opened up with Round 14 Lock In. This is a Male & Female tag team challenge as well as a individual tone up challenge. It is a 6 week challenge that runs from the 17th February to the 29th March 2025. The Team are currently at the half way mark and killing it. Way to push team! We hope you have been enjoying all the trainings as well as the check ins with Johnnie. We wish you well on the remaining three weeks and cant wait to see the end results.
PROGRAMS:
The Team at Mā Te Huruhuru Charitable Trust are back for another year of training here at BrownPride. Mā Te Huruhuru Charitable Trust is a South Auckland-based organisation. They are dedicated to empowering taitamariki through culturally grounded, innovative programmes that further develop skills, resilience, and community connection. We currently have Coach Romeo coaching them Every Wednesday 1:30pm-2:30pm.
We also had a group from Muma with us. MUMA provides wrap-around services for whānau who find themselves in a situation where they need support. Their support ranges from access to services for drug and alcohol addiction to homelessness, education and building financial capacity. It is a privilege to be able to have them use our space to train, we have coaches Romeo & Resa helping out.
Coach Lafo, Romeo & Resa are currently taking Weightlifting/CrossFit Classes at ASDAH on Tuesdays & Thursday 3:30pm-4:30pm. This is an afterschool program for the students which our coaches take them through Weightlifting movements and cues as well as CrossFit movements. If you have any family members that attend ASDAH please encourage them to come through.
hyrox FITNESS COMPETITION 2025
HYROX is a fitness competition that combines running and functional workouts. It's a race where participants complete a series of eight different workout stations, with running intervals in between. The event is designed to test both endurance and strength, making it a challenging race for athletes of various fitness levels. This year Hyrox ran their first ever competition in Auckland at the ASB Showgrounds on the 1st & 2nd of February. We had a few of our CFSA Athletes compete in the Teams as well as the Individual competition. A big congratulations to Romeo, David, Elvis, Esther, Cherie and Ryan for competing.
CRAFT TO CASH
This month BrownPride have started their first ever "Craft to Cash" program created by CEO, Johnnie Timu. This program is focused on the art of Barbering in hopes to inspire and motivate students. And help them to seek other ways of income for the future. Pua Timu & Reginald McFarland will be the mentors of the program and managed by Johnnie. They are currently running this program at Papatoetoe High School and we hope to reach more school's in the future.
