Dear Phoenix Club Member,
I am Emilia Cappellett, a senior student-athlete on the Elon Women’s Soccer Team from Binghamton, New York. I am majoring in Sport Management with minors in Business Administration, Communications, and Professional Sales. Closing out my final semester, I am so grateful to share my experience at Elon with you and express my gratitude for all the support that donors like you have provided me along my journey.
I am so thankful to have been able to benefit from an athletic scholarship here at Elon and because of this support from donors like yourself, I have been able to learn and grow as a student, athlete, and overall person. During my first season being a Phoenix, my team won our first-ever CAA Conference Championship and had the opportunity to play in the NCAA Tournament. This memory was something that I dreamed about since I was a kid and one of the most memorable moments of my life. Being able to wear the Elon jersey, has been the most rewarding experience I have had in my life. I owe my participation in this program to everyone who has supported me along the way, and it would not have been possible without my athletic scholarship.
Off the field, I have been involved on campus and my experience would be completely different without these activities. I am serving as Vice President of the Sport Management Society, Women’s Soccer SAAC representative as well as Mental Health Committee Chair, member of Women Influencers in Sport and Morgan’s Message. Also, I am the lead author, along with my research mentor, of a publication for undergraduate research involving the positioning of the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame which I will present at SURF day at Elon. Lastly, for the past couple of years, I have resumed a position with our athletics department as a Marketing Assistant. Despite my coursework, involvement, and rigorous athletic commitments, I have remained on the Dean’s List every semester. Throughout my time at Elon, I am reassured daily that I made the best decision coming here due to my amazing academic and athletic departments and it wouldn’t be possible without my scholarship.
As you can see, sports have been and will continue to be a huge part of my life and after graduation, I intend to pursue a career in Sports Marketing for a professional sports team. Being involved with sports, I have been able to see the impact and importance they have on society as well as the ability to bring communities and generations together for years to come.
With all of this being said, I want to once again thank you for your generosity with your donation. You have provided me and many other student-athletes with an indescribable opportunity to experience the Elon community which supports and pushes us to succeed academically and athletically. There is no other community like our Phoenix family and my four years being in this family have been incredibly special. I would not be the person I am today without Elon, and I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and belief in Elon student-athletes.
