FROM THE Principal’s Desk

Dear Bluejay Family,

I want to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to all of our wonderful mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, and mother figures within our school community. Mother's Day is a special occasion where we honor and celebrate the incredible love, sacrifice, and guidance that mothers provide each and every day.

To all the mothers among us, your dedication and love are truly appreciated and valued. Your role in shaping the lives of our children and nurturing their growth is immeasurable, and we are deeply grateful for everything you do.

Let's also remember those who may find Mother's Day difficult, whether due to loss or other reasons. Let us offer them our support, understanding, and kindness during this time.

Wishing all of our St. Cecilia School mothers a joyful and blessed Mother's Day filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Grace & Peace,

Erin B. Henry

Principal

“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and laughs at the days to come.”

GOODBYES

It is with heavy hearts that we share news of two more departures from our teaching staff. As you may have already heard, the following ladies will be on to new adventures next year. Please join us in prayers for their success!

  • Mrs. Rebecca Wall will be leaving us after nearly 4 years at St. Cecilia. Mrs. Wall is certainly known for her love and care for her students (and her coffee). We wish her all the best in her next big adventure at her new school.
  • Mrs. Stacy Delatte may have only been here a short time, but her big heart, full of love and laughter have left a tremendous impression. Passionate, creative, and faith-filled, Mrs. Delatte will be an asset wherever she chooses to apply her talent.

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Please note the changes in our uniform policy!

Beginning May 2024 uniform vendors will apply the new branded logos, crest, and patch to all uniforms purchased. We will have a 3 year "phase out" period to eliminate the current uniforms. During this time, the older patch/crest/logo may be worn. Effective August 2027 ALL uniforms MUST have the new branded approved crest/logos.

Dear Bluejay Family,

We are officially finished competing for the athletic year at SCS. We bid farewell to a fantastic group of 8th grade men and women that have represented us with grace, humility, and sportsmanship since they put on Bluejay uniforms. We are sad to see them leave, but are excited to see what they will accomplish in highschool. Thank you all for the memories!

We have a new champion in town! The doubles tennis team of Seth Gallagher and Nicholas Soprano are the Christian School League Boys Tennis Champions. This is possibly the first tennis championship in school history. They played against the other SCS team of Henry Lorio and Walker Montz in the finals. Ahna Dubroc and Heidi Derge finished tied for third in the girls' division. We are so proud of Seth and Nick and the entire tennis team that practiced with them to make the best of the best! Thanks to the coaching staff of Coaches Mark Gallagher, Christianna Gallagher, Chuck Soprano, John Lorio, and Jamie Lee for their dedication to the kids and the sport!

Registration has closed for 7th and 8th grade volleyball so tryout rosters can be finalized. Registration is ongoing for 5th and 6th grade volleyball, boys and girls cross country, and football. Tryouts for volleyball for 7th and 8th grade are set for Wednesday, May 15th for 7th grade and Thursday, May 16th for 8th grade.

We are happy to have a wrestling coach as part of our Bluejay Family. Coach Kerry Boumans is the wrestling coach at STM. He will be hosting a camp for our 2nd through 12th graders at STM. I can personally attest to the benefits of wrestling as it lends strengths to other sports. Coach Kerry is a fantastic coach and ambassador for the sport. We are happy to have him as one of ours. Please see the flier below for more information.

As we prepare for the summer break, please use this opportunity to keep the kids moving. I am providing links below to register to camps that are put on by STM. Please follow the links and communicate with the camp directors with any questions.

Also, please see below the link to register at camps available at Teurlings.

Our swim team competed in the championship meet on Wednesday at the Earl Chris Pool. Despite being a smaller than usual team, the Bluejays made a huge impact. The girls placed 7th overall out of 18 teams. That is not too shabby for a team of 4 swimmers! They were led by Addison Dugas and Piper Scott. We are so proud of them and the entire team that kept swimming here at SCS!

The SCS Golf Team played in the championship on Wednesday at Cane Row in New Iberia. The competition was the best in recent years. Our Bluejays fought hard and all scored within 10 points of each other. They finished 15th overall. They have maintained this level of consistency throughout the season. Special thanks to Coaches Ricky Parvino, Spence Girouard, and Savannah Girouard for their guidance and instruction this season. We look forward to seeing our younger golfers continue to compete for us through the years!

We held our annual SCS Athletic Banquet on Thursday night. The night was truly a special one. Fr. Michael was present to honor our student athletes and brought reverence to the event. It took a team to pull off the event, and they certainly did. Special thanks to Erin Henry, Ashley Sonnier, Holly Leger, Joyce Brou, Shannon Melancon, Laura Umbricht, Lisa Patin, Mindy Boudreaux, Ray Gary, Ross Stevens, and Jason Maynard for their hard work behind the scenes in setting up and serving the coaches, parents, and kids. The kids and parents were treated to a fantastic meal cooked by LeBouef’s Deli. Everyone was also treated to delicious desserts. We were given a great message by Coach Kerry Boumans on how to grow as a person and a competitor despite setbacks. I am beyond proud of the kid’s behavior and respect they showed while Coach Kerry was presenting. The kids were presented with hats for them to show their Bluejay pride. The coaches were also honored for their hard work during the season. Sadly, we bid farewell to Mrs. Taylor and Mr. Andre Serio as Assistant Athletic Directors. We are happy that they are proud parents of Charlie, and look forward to hearing of him and his big sister’s exploits! The SCS Athletic Department is better as a result of their input and hard work over the years.

In an effort to improve our athletic programs at St. Cecilia, it was felt that a comprehensive athletic handbook was needed. This handbook affects players, coaches, parents, and fans. Parent/guardian completion of this form and adherence to the rules and regulations outlined in the handbook are requirements for participation in athletic programs at St. Cecilia School. The link below will take you to the handbook. It is also on the school website for reference as well. Thank you all for your continued support of SCS Athletics.

For those that have already completed the acknowledgement form, and want to refresh themselves on the rules and regulations, please follow the link below.

****We are so proud of our SCS 7/8th Grade football, 5th Grade White and 7th Grade volleyball teams' fantastic accomplishments this fall. We can now officially celebrate our championships in volleyball and football by purchasing apparel from Action Specialties. These are school approved and can be worn as part of the school uniform. There is a tab on the top horizontal bar for championship apparel. Thanks again for your support of SCS Athletics!

***Thank you for your support of SCS Athletics! To keep up with the schedule for our Bluejays, please follow the link below. Admission into League games are $6 for adults and $1 for kids. SCS staff and students are admitted free.

Have a blessed day,
