This week the children in Dosbarth Tegid have been performing their Haikus poems about Tegid, look out for them on Seesaw. We have been learning to recognise different coins and make totals with them. Maybe this is something the children could practice at home. After half term we are looking forward to competing in all the Eisteddfod activities and finding out more about Welsh castles. We will be learning new ICT skills and producing advertising posters about Wales. Have a lovely week off everyone.
In Literacy this week, Dosbarth Gwynant have finished our work on 'King of the Sky'. The children really impressed with their independence in identifying features of a non-chronological report in order to create our Steps to Success for their own writing. Using this, the children have written their own Welcome Guides to Sir y Fflint, showcasing all the amazing opportunities those living in Flintshire have access to. In Welsh, we have been continuing to say what we like and dislike, giving reasons for our answers.
In Maths, we have tackled division - something they were not very impressed by at the start of the week! We started by identifying the relationship between multiplication and division, and looking at how our times tables knowledge gives us the answers to the division calculations. We have then used Numicon to help us to understand how the formal method of division works, with some children starting to work with remainders and how we can express these in different ways. Any support you can give with helping your child to learn their multiplication facts to 10x10 would be greatly appreciated - times tables open up the world of Maths!
After half term, we will be writing persuasive letters in Literacy, reviewing our knowledge of the past tense in Welsh and applying our Maths learning so far to work with money, measure and shape.
It’s been a quiet week in Cwtch this week, due to absences. We hope the children are feeling better and have had chance to enjoy the snow! The children have been enjoying our nursery rhyme sessions and are joining in with more and more of the songs. We have now made more space, so we can include some dancing too! Physical skills have been a big focus this half term and we have been encouraging children to put their coats, waterproofs, and wellies on for our outdoor sessions every day. Over the next half term we will be introducing different snacks in Cwtch, such as toast, crackers, and jelly so that the children can practice cutlery skills, with supervision of course! As we are getting to know the children, we are finding out more about their likes and dislikes, so if anyone has any Thomas the Tank or Peppa Pig books or toys that are no longer used, could we possibly have them please?
In Maths this week, Dosbarth Brenig have continued with their work on halving numbers. We have been so impressed with the confidence that the children have shown towards the end of the week, and they are talking extremely confidently about their own work to each other and to adults in school. Bendigedig, pawb! Remember to keep practising those halves of 30, 50, 70 and 90 until they're stuck in your memory!
Dosbarth Alwen have been practicing learning their topic story, Each Peach Pear Plum this week using actions to remind them of the words. We have also been looking at how we can stay safe online for Safer Internet Day and looking at good and bad choices that we can make.💻 We’ve continued practicing our money skills too this week ready to use them in our new Caffi Cymraeg and Saltney Ferry Car Wash next half term! 🚙🧼🍽️🏴
In Dosbarth Padarn we have been developing our digital skills to create animations inspired by Morph. Some of our friends used toys, objects and even characters from Jack and the Beanstalk.
We've new visitors to our class too!!
Our class are thoroughly enjoying developing our understanding of Health and Well-being through gross motor and ball skills activities. Future rugby stars of Wales!
