BOARD NOTES November 2025

Dear MCS Family,

As we move deeper into November, I continue to be reminded just how much our community leans in for one another. Whether it’s making sure a family has a warm meal, celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our students, or showing up in support of a friend during our Board meeting, these moments reflect the heart of who we are. Marietta shows up when it matters.

This month is all about gratitude, and I want each of you to know how thankful I am for the ways you uplift our students, support our families, and stand beside your colleagues. Your quiet acts of kindness and your collective commitment to our mission make all the difference.

As a reminder, Thanksgiving Break is November 24–28. I hope each of you can find time to rest and connect with loved ones. You deserve it.

Sincerely,

Grant

Khushi joined Park Street in fourth grade after moving from Australia, and has quickly become a standout student and leader. She is active in the Art Club and the Performing Panthers, and currently participates in the MILE Talent Development Program. Khushi excels academically, achieving Distinguished Learner scores on the Georgia Milestones math assessment, and showed strong growth on her fall Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment, scoring in the 90th percentile. Her teachers describe her as “a dream student” who embodies Panther Pride in everything she does.

The Board of Education congratulates Khushi for being a Marietta City Schools Student of the Month for November.

The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized Carter Brooks, a fifth-grade student at Hickory Hills Elementary, as a Marietta City Schools November Student of the Month.

Carter is a devoted older brother and an example of kindness, respect, and responsibility. As a member of the safety patrol, he is always ready to lend a hand to teachers and classmates. His teachers describe him as one of the hardest-working students they’ve ever taught, noting his tremendous growth as a reader. Carter comes from a family deeply rooted in Marietta that continually supports and encourages him. His perseverance and positivity truly make him shine.

The Board of Education congratulates Carter for being a Marietta City Schools Student of the Month for November.

She recently completed her leadership endorsement, furthering her commitment to learning and service. Mrs. Cobb is a proud Marietta mom to a high school senior, and she has served at multiple MCS schools throughout her career.

Special Recognition

The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized the inaugural PEACH Education Tax Credit contributors for their generous support of the district and its students.

Through the Georgia Foundation for Public Education, the PEACH Education Tax Credit Program allows donors to redirect a portion of their state income taxes to benefit public education. Funds raised will seed the district’s new Be Somebody Savings Program, which promotes financial literacy and rewards students for academic milestones. Beginning with the Class of 2029, qualifying students can earn up to $1,000 upon graduation to support their college, career, or life goals.

The Board of Education recognizes Rich and Jacqueline Buss, Chris and Allison Gruehn, O'Dell Hungerford Blanchard & Booth Attorneys at Law, and all PEACH Education Tax Credit participants for supporting this program and our students' long-term success.

Special Recognition

The Marietta City Schools Board of Education recognized three Marietta High School seniors, James Lowe, Robert Warren, and Jackson Micheletto, who earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest achievement in Scouting America.

James Lowe enhanced the walking trails at Laurel Park and Tumlin Park by designing and installing mile markers, giving residents a way to measure distance and their progress. He sourced all materials through donations and, over the course of two days, led a team of 10 volunteers, coordinating with Marietta Parks and Recreation and Marietta Power to complete the installation project.

Robert Warren focused on historic preservation, restoring a 19th-century cemetery in his neighborhood. He led a team of volunteers, used Ground Penetrating Radar to locate and identify six unmarked graves, created respectful markers, built a boundary fence, and landscaped with native plants. His project honored local history and preserved legacies, raising over $1,500 and totaling 165 volunteer hours.

Jackson Micheletto earned his Eagle rank by creating Flag Retirement Boxes made from recycled newspaper stands. Donated to the Cobb County Fire Department, these boxes provide a dignified way for community members to retire worn American flags while connecting scouts with fire stations for tours and fire safety education.

The Board of Education commends James, Robert, and Jackson for their leadership, service, and commitment.
