Emily Redondo Another One-Off 2025

Relatable (2025)

These young faces with a range of emotions: worried, goofy, anxious, confident. These moments, distorted, as if fabric blowing in the wind. Fleeting moments of youth, a fleeting life.

These nine prints were printed in a traditional darkroom and collaged together into one piece. The negatives are not my own, but the distortion is. In 2022, I was preparing to teach film photography classes for the first time. I was creating a video on how to develop film and needed “dummy” film to show the process. I reached into my drawer of negatives and prints left behind by past students to find an uncut roll. After washing the film, I placed it between my fingers to squeegee the excess water off. The gelatin must have softened because at this moment the negatives all moved and distorted. This moment is captured at the 25:40 minute mark of the video below:

Developing Dissipation (2025)

In silver breath the image sways, half-born in halide, soft with haze—remembering I once was there.

These four prints were printed in a traditional darkroom using a technique I call “painting with developer”, then collaged together into one piece. Although the same negative of a self-portrait was used, each is unique. One must work quickly as an image develops in less than 90 seconds. The thrashing that happens when “painting” contrasts the calmness of the subject who seems to be disappearing yet is only possible by appearing by way of developer.

Frenzied Perfection (2025)

Multimedia: Paint pens on Collage using Silver Gelatin prints and photograms

Both controlled and chaotic, precision with a dose of spontaneity. This image combines my love for graffiti, photography, and process.

These nine prints were printed in a traditional darkroom and collaged together into one piece.

The photograms were created using my own spontaneous drawings over an image of cracked concrete. The negatives for the four abstract prints were created in 2022 while I was preparing to teach film photography. I needed sample film for a demo video and used an uncut roll left behind by a former student. As I squeegeed off the wash water, the softened gelatin shifted—distorting the images unexpectedly. This moment is captured at the 25:40 minute mark of the video below:
