Aero Sarayaku urgently needs funds to import two engines and essential spare parts to ensure the safety of its aircraft. These spare parts are used to evacuate medical emergencies.
We are seeking to raise funds to purchase a LYCOMING C-206 engine. Your support makes it possible for us to continue saving lives and strengthening community tourism in the Amazon. Donate now and be part of the change! This engine provides a key bridge to protecting the forest, saving lives, and raising awareness about the rights of nature globally.
The Importance of Women and Children in "Kawsak Sacha" the Living Forest
In amazonian communities, women and children are fundamental to the preservation of culture, biodiversity, and life itself. However, they are also the most vulnerable in emergencies.
Sarayaku's testimony highlights the social and health injustice that, despite challenges, communities continue to fight for access to healthcare, territorial protection, and the preservation of the Living Forest. Their commitment is not only an act of resistance, but also a demonstration of the profound interconnection between nature and community life.
The community airline Aero Sarayaku plays a very important role in all the struggles and resistance that Sarayaku has led for the rights of nature and life, saving lives and the environment as one of the alternatives for cargo and passenger transportation. The airline has also served as a messenger in the dissemination and socialization of the philosophical proposal of Kawsak Sacha – Living Forest.
AEROMEDICAL EVACUATION
AeroSarayaku recently evacuated a 10-year-old boy with a venomous snakebite on his right index finger. With adverse weather conditions on the horizon, we were able to rescue him just in time. We were also able to transport a young man who was vomiting blood after being hit in the ribs in a river accident. Once again, #AeroSarayaku was able to evacuate him to the Amazon River Airport in Shell just before it closed.
FROM FILMMAKERS TO PARAMEDICS
While leaving Sarayaku to film a documentary about the ancient Salt Route, we received an emergency report via Motorola radio that a 12-year-old girl had been bitten by a common lancehead snake. Known locally as the "x," this snake is one of the deadliest in the Amazon and had bitten the girl three times on her left leg. The documentary production team reported the emergency to Aero Sarayaku and rushed to her aid. In the meantime, traditional and homeopathic medicine were applied, given the absence of doctors at the social security clinic or the Ministry of Health subcenter. The 30 minutes it took for Aero Sarayaku to arrive seemed like an eternity. The girl's recovery is now in the hands of God and the health professionals. We are praying for her.
The Challenge
This air transport proposal seeks to provide a possible alternative to the problems of deforestation, species trafficking, and community migration due to the progressive and aggressive advancement of roads as the only mobility model that decentralized autonomous governments offer and offer as a solution. On the contrary, the advance of oil extraction development opens large heliports, roads, and highways that threaten the life and health of indigenous territories of the nationalities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, specifically in the Pastaza province.
Our Desired impact
We ask our global community to support the strengthening and long-term management of sustainable projects, such as the development of ethical and responsible community-based ecotourism promoted by the various communities in the Pastaza province and the Amazon region, which includes Amazonian areas of communities in neighboring Peru. Aero Sarayaku will also develop social programs in the areas of health, aeromedical evacuation, air emergencies, and the mobilization of female and male leaders and students.
