Bio
Dr. Scott R. Furtwengler is an educational psychologist and researcher in New Orleans, LA. He earned a PhD in Educational Psychology & Individual Differences, specializing in Learning & Development at the University of Houston. He served in higher education for over twenty years, predominantly as an administrator for post-secondary honors programs at several institutions, including SIUC, Miami-Dade College, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, University of North Florida, and as the Dean of the Honors Program at San Jacinto College in Houston. He recently served as the Director of Institutional Research at Brazosport College and as Assistant Director of Assessment at the University of Houston-Downtown.
He has also served as the National Director of Research, Monitoring, & Evaluation for a large, nonprofit organization, a User Experience (UX) Researcher in the private sector, and as an Outcomes Analyst for the Harris Center for Mental Health & IDD.

Scott’s research interests include human behavior & learning, psychosocial development, theories of motivation, achievement goals, performance, engagement, intelligence and creativity, and the interaction of environmental, genetic, and psychological factors on student success. Scott serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Educational Psychology, the Journal of Advanced Academics, and Gifted Child Quarterly, and on the editorial board for the Psychreg Journal of Psychology. A founding board member of the National Association of Fellowships Advisors, he is a writer, a musician, and a former high school volleyball and basketball coach.
