We’ve made this guide to give you all the info you need to know about what a boudoir session is and how the process works with us at Heartfire Boudoir. At Heartfire Boudoir, we want every person to be able to embrace their unique beauty and celebrate their sensuality. We believe that “sexy” doesn’t have an age or a dress size. Sexy is a feeling, not an aesthetic - and you are worth photographing and celebrating exactly as you are.
So… what exactly is boudoir? Boudoir is technically a French word which means 'a woman's dressing room or bedroom', but we like to think of it as just a fancy word for intimate, empowering and body positive portraiture. Boudoir can be anything you want it to be - fun, flirty, beautiful, cute, sexy, feminine, masculine, intimate, candid, posed, or anything else you could dream of.
At Heartfire Boudoir, we’re proud to run an inclusive studio that welcomes people of every gender. We want to give you the photoshoot experience you want - whether that’s individual portraits or a raunchy/romantic shoot with your partner, we’re here for it. Our only goal is to make you feel absolutely amazing, and to help you find a newfound appreciation for yourself. Meet Your Team
We’re Jasper and Nat, a husband and wife team located in Sydney NSW. Boudoir is so special to us both because we love helping people feel amazing. We all struggle with self image, and we want to help others overcome as much of that as we can. It’s the most rewarding thing to show someone photographs of themselves and having them say, "I can't believe that's me, I never thought I could look like that!" And it means so much to us to be able to offer that, and to have people trust us to provide them with that experience. You don't need to lose 15 pounds to do a boudoir session, you just need to be you.
Jasper has been working as a professional photographer and videographer in the industry for 20 years, initially starting out with portraiture, theatre productions and weddings. He has worked for numerous photography studios in Sydney.
Nat has long been passionate about empowering people. With a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and having worked specifically within the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault counselling, she hopes to continue supporting individuals by providing a safe space to explore their own sensuality, confidence and power. She has experience modelling in front of the camera and knows how to help you look your best. She also manages the photo editing/retouching.
The Experience
On the day of your session, you might be feeling both excited and nervous at the same time! Those nerves are completely normal, but you can rest assured that you’re in good hands.
During your session, we'll pop on some music, browse through outfits together and make a bit of a plan for the photoshoot. You don’t need to have any experience/practice modelling in front of a camera to do a boudoir session… we’ll help guide you into poses that highlight the features you love. You can wear as much or as little clothing as you’d like to - the choice is always 100% yours, and your comfort is our #1 priority.
After your session, you'll likely be feeling pretty amazing and excited to see the final photos! If you're interested in purchasing physical products, we'll have our sample products available for you to browse through on the day of your photoshoot. Roughly 1-2 week after your session, you'll receive an online gallery of watermarked low-res previews to select your final images from! If you're wanting digital images only, we'll then finalise the edits and send them back you within roughly 6 weeks. And if you've decided to order some physical products, we'll liaise with you to design albums, wall art, etc, to make sure we can create your dream boudoir collection :)
Wardrobe
One of the biggest worries people have about doing a boudoir session is what to wear. But there are no rules at all about what you can or can't wear! The most important thing is that what you choose makes YOU feel confident. If you feel like a million bucks in lingerie, bring it. If you feel sexy and amazing in shorts and a tank top, or a knitted winter sweater, that's perfect too. There are no limits!
You might want to buy something new and special for your shoot, or pull some favourite items out of the cupboard that you know you love and look great in.
Posing
This is another one of the big concerns people have. We hear people say all the time "I'll have no idea what to do in front of the camera!"
Unless you are a professional model, no-one knows how to pose naturally. That's our job! We'll help you through each and every single pose, guiding you with verbal instructions as well as demonstrating poses for you. If you trust in the process, we promise to take care of the rest.

Selecting Your Photos & Ordering Products
Roughly 1-2 weeks after your session, you'll receive an online gallery of watermarked low-res previews to select your final images from.
If you're wanting digital images only, we'll then finalise the edits and send them back you within 6 weeks!
And if you've decided to order some physical products, we'll liaise with you to design these via email :) Production & delivery of physical products can take longer (roughly 6-10 weeks depending on what products are ordered). They can be delivered directly to your home address, to make it as easy a process as possible!

Our Specialities:
Creating the gallery of your dreams: When you book in with us, you’ll receive a custom designed questionnaire which helps us to provide a personalised experience that aligns with your vision. We want to know what aspects of your appearance you love the most, what style of images you want, what you’re comfortable/uncomfortable with, etc - this detailed planning means you can be sure you’ll get the most out of your shoot.
Tailored, high-end retouching: In today’s society, retouching can be a complex issue. Our goal is to always make sure you look like yourself because we know that you’re beautiful exactly as you are, right now, and you don’t need to be changed in any way. We know as well that people may want more or less in the way of retouching, and we’ll always speak with you to understand your exact preferences with respect to editing your photos. We approach each image as its own work of art, making tailored hand-edits and adjustments to things such as colouring, lighting, etc. We offer professional skin retouching, and can remove temporary blemishes (such as bruises or pimples) as well as permanent features (e.g. scars) at people’s requests. We'll personalise our process to you and your needs, because this experience is about you giving yourself permission to put yourself first.
Quality luxury products: We’ve tried and tested a range of suppliers to ensure we can offer you the best quality products. Although having digital images is a wonderful way to celebrate and share your photos, there’s nothing quite like the being able to see yourself printed in a luxe album, or on a glossy metal wall art.
We’re dedicated to you: From the moment you book in with us, we’re here for you. If you have questions any step of the way, want some help brainstorming outfit options, or just need a bit of reassurance that it’s normal to be freaking out (it really is normal!), we’re just an email, text or phone call away. And when the day of your shoot comes around, our focus is entirely on making you feel comfortable and looked after.

Questions we often get asked!
What could I do with boudoir portraits? Although many people do a boudoir shoot as a gift for a loved one, we 100% believe that boudoir is the best gift you can give YOURSELF too, to capture your essence as you are now. When you need a reminder of the strong, beautiful person that you are, you'll have a collection of amazing portraits to look back on. We love it when people come to us for themselves... the experience and images we create together really do have the power to boost your self esteem and confidence, and help you reclaim parts of yourself that are often lost as we get consumed with our lives, our jobs, and our families.
I'm not a model, and I don't look like the other people in your photos! The people in our portfolio are people exactly like you - they had the exact same fears, anxieties and concerns before going into this experience themselves. There is no such thing as the perfect body. You are never too big, too small, or too old to do a boudoir session. Boudoir is for EVERY body. Let us show you that.
Will you share my photos online or with anyone else? While we’d absolutely love to use images from our session to help inspire other people who might be thinking about doing their own photoshoot, not everyone feels comfortable or is in a position to do so. Your privacy is incredibly important to us, and this decision is absolutely down to you and what you feel comfortable with - we will never share ANY photos without your written consent. We have a range of options for sharing images, whether that is to keep your images completely private, to share some of them (e.g. faceless/anonymous images), or to share all of them. We’ll spend time discussing your preference around this at our in-person viewing after you’ve had a chance to see your full gallery.

Luxury Bespoke Albums
Our luxury albums are imported from an international boudoir-specific supplier. They are handcrafted by an all-female production team using high-end, durable materials. Albums come in a range of sizes, styles, materials, and there are multiple add-ons to choose from so that you can truly tailor the album of your dreams.
Albums can be added-on to an above image collection. Please note we recommend a minimum of 15 photos for our albums, as there is a minimum of 10 double-page spreads.

Albums are by far our most popular product for displaying your images and turning your unforgettable boudoir experience into a lifetime keepsake. Albums can be stored privately in a chest of draws or bookshelf, or displayed openly in a living room to share with others.
Not only do they make the perfect gift for a partner, but these custom-designed books allow your experience to become more than just a photoshoot… it tells your story. Our albums are designed to flow in an order that takes the viewer on their own adventure, and we’ll work with you during your gallery reveal and ordering appointment to design it exactly how you want it to be.
They are handcrafted by a boudoir-specific supplier, and are made of gorgeous thick lustre pages which offer rich colours and fine texture. They have lay-flat binding (meaning images will run seamlessly across a two-page spread, with no crease in the middle!), luxe durable cover options, and artistically designed layouts. Our cover material options span from linen, silk, imitation or genuine leather, suede, snakeskin, and many many more! We also have options of stunning leather-bound journal album designs, as well as albums with glistening crystal covers that allow you to display an image of your choosing on the front.

Couture Box | $350
The Couture Box is a custom preservation box for your albums. You can choose to opt for the same cover material to match your album, or a different one. The couture box can be ordered with a fabric cover, or a crystal cover (pictured).
Couture Box Crystal Cover Engraving | $250
Engraving on the crystal cover of your couture box can truly personalise your album. Whether you want a small line of text, or something decorative, we can design something bespoke for you! (Please note, couture box engraving is available on 8x8 and 10x10 inch boxes only).
Gilding | $200
You can customise the edge of your album with a variety of metallic colors (gold, silver, etc), or choose from a stunning range of designs/patterns.
Metal Wall Art
Experience vibrancy and depth of colour in your metal prints with our gloss-finish metal wall art. Dye infuses the image directly into a specially-coated precision cut aluminum sheet, which is ultra-durable, scratch and water resistant. This unique process turns every image into a vibrant work of art.

But honestly, we think it can be one of the best investments you make for yourself. Crystal Blocks
These crystal blocks are a quintessential luxury product. They are a 1’ thick acrylic block with a metallic image face-mounted to the backside, giving an amazing visual effect. They are absolutely gorgeous as a stand-alone display product, and look incredible on a desk, in a display cabinet, or on a bedside table.

Two-Image Folio
Our handcrafted folios are ideal as an add-on to an album purchase, and are a perfect way to display two of your favourite photos as a spread. They are presented as full-image folios, giving a large and dramatic presentation experience. The images are mounted on archival board, and laminated with a scratch-proof laminate that not only protects your images, but also brings out their brilliance. You can choose from a range of luxe cover materials also.

A handcrafted artisan-quality Presentation Box is a lovely way to store your favourite images. These are done as individually matted fine art prints, so that each image becomes its own individual work of art. Our Presentation Boxes can hold between 10 - 20 photos. It’s a great option for those who want the flexibility of being able to store their images away for safe keeping, or to display individual/multiple prints on a shelf or wall.

Payment
We require a 25% deposit to secure a date.
The remainder of your photoshoot package is then due on the day of your session, and can be paid for by cash or direct debit.
If you wish to purchase additional digital images or physical products, these must be paid for in full before images/products are delivered. We will hold your images on file for up to 12 months if you wish to make extra purchases at a later date!
