Bingo!

On Thursday 26th March, the PTA held an Easter Bingo. Great fun was had by everyone, and the PTA raised £250.

A big thank you to all the PTA and staff who helped at the event, and to all families and friends who supported it.

Frogs

The children in Frogs enjoyed celebrating Chinese new year. They  listened  and danced to traditional Chinese New Year music. They worked together to create an amazing dancing dragon and proudly paraded their dragon around the school! To finish the celebrations, everyone had the opportunity to taste some Chinese food, it was delicious! What a wonderful day of learning and celebration!   This term, Reception children have started changing into their PE kits for hall sessions. They are working hard to become more independent when getting changed. In PE, the children have worked in small groups, taking turns and collaborating to create different shapes inspired by the theme “Woodlands”. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, creativity, and confidence growing.     Following a successful World Book Day this term, Kingfishers were excited to return to Early Years to read again with the children in Frogs. These sessions support reading by building confidence, improving fluency, and fostering a love of stories for everyone. The session went very well, and we look forward to continuing these special reading opportunities next term.

Cygnets

Cygnets have had a great half term. In English we have been looking at the book ‘The Robot and the Bluebird.’ We have enjoyed this story and looking at the friendship between the two characters. In maths we have been looking at measurement. The children have learnt how to measure how tall, long or heavy something is. We also looked at capacity and volume too. Some of Cygnets have moved from their 10s times tables to their 5s time tables which is amazing!

Swans

This half term the children have enjoyed celebrating a range of events. They got to dress up as their favourite characters for World Book Day and all dressed in red for Red Nose Day. It was lovely to see them all getting involved in different activities in school. For World Book Day, we took part in a book trail and searched to find the teachers' favourite stories hidden around the school. On Red Nose Day, we all got involved in a paper chain making competition and the children all worked together to make the longest chain they could with only 50 sheets of paper! Over the last few weeks, Swans have been getting creative during their DT lessons and have been practising their sewing skills to make their own pouch. I asked some of the children what their favourite thing was that we did this week and they all told me about when we did our science experiment, testing different waterproof materials to keep our bears dry.

Kingfishers

Kingfishers have really enjoyed their Ancient Egyptian topic this term and have even immersed themselves in their art work, creating collages and scrolls. We have used a range of resources including water colours, pastels and chalks to create our masterpieces.   We have also worked extremely hard to understand fractions of amounts ( and got the classroom a bit messy doing it!)     Next term we are excited to begin our Summer learning about the Roman Empire! We will be looking at reading scales of mass and volume in maths and entering into a new adventure in our English book (although we won’t give away the title just yet!)

Turtles

Turtles have had a such a great term! They had some beautiful Rangoli Artwork created with the help of Sunita, the children also took part In dressing up in traditional Indian clothing. Some Turtles became the King, Princess and Prince with their special outfits. The children then joyfully participated in Indian Folk and Bollywood style dancing and blew Sunita away with their efforts. The children have worked hard in their art topic using tints and shades to create a three-dimensional effect when painting an image of a mug. The children were able to add black to make a colour darker and white to make a colour lighter. In history the children have been learning all about Ancient Egypt and took their time to create some beautiful double-spread fact files all about Tutankhamun and his life. Miss Jennings wants to say a very big well done to Turtles for their fantastic efforts, determination and persistency with their Whiz Wham Alakazam performance. The children worked their socks off and did amazingly well! This also applies to their efforts in their multiplication tests that they have been practising; it is absolutely amazing to see everyone improving each week.

Keep up the hard work.

Sea Stars

Sea Stars have had a jam-packed half-term, full of new experiences, team spirit and lots of smiles. Firstly, Year 5 wowed the swimming instructors with their love of the water and their ability to to take on new challenges. Next, they demonstrated their biking prowess during Bikeability and proved they can safely navigate the challenges of riding on the road. Sandwiched in between these activities, we have also designed and created a variety of structures in DT, celebrated World Book Day and have consistently been awarded the class with the 'most ClassDojos' earned. Finally, we have delved deep into the world of fractions during maths lessons and fallen even further in love with the characters in the mystery novel 'Twitch' during English.

Blue Whales

Blue Whales have had a fabulous month of March! Together they celebrtated World Book Day, raised money for Comic Relief and continued with their love of learning each day.  Children enjoyed everything from making lemonade in science as part of their Properties of Materials topic to building a truss bridge in Design Technology, using spaghetti with a  finished product out of wood. Let's see what the summer term has to offer...

Orcas

During World Book Day, Orcas took part in a book trail around the school. They found clues that lead them to find teacher’s favourite books, which in turn gave another clue. In English this term, Orcas have been reading a book called ‘Twitch’ by M G Leonard. During a role play activity, they acted out a section of the book focusing on facial expression and body language to convey emotion.

In science, Orcas have been investigating whether substances are soluble or insoluble. They ensured they carried out a fair test by making the amounts of water used for each substance the same, the amount of substance was the same, the beaker was the same size each time and the liquid was stirred for the same amount of time.
