A MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Though Mother Nature seems intent on raining out our parade, even this crazy stretch of weather can’t squelch the excitement of all of the awesome things happening across our district! From our Mill Valley 4th graders proudly singing the National Anthem at an Admirals game, to the excitement that comes as our spring sports begin, to events like the 80’s Mix Tape Cabaret event on May 1st or the awesome Best Buddies Friendship Walk on May 9th, there’s no shortage of opportunities to make memories with your family in our schools. On top of all that awesome stuff, we are incredibly proud to share that our district was once again named a Top Workplace, ranking 5th overall, and we received the Values Award (see additional details below). These honors are significant because they reflect something we already know to be true: our staff loves what they do. They see the immense value in our work, the privilege of shaping young lives, and the power of the daily opportunities to help students learn, grow, and succeed. That energy and purpose fuel our success, and so does your partnership and support. Whether you’re cheering from the stands, volunteering in classrooms, or simply encouraging your child to give their best each day, you’re a key part of what makes our district one of the absolute best in the state. So thank you! Thank you for believing in our mission, supporting our staff, and helping build a community where students, families, and our schools thrive. Together, we make Muskego-Norway an extraordinary place to learn, grow, and succeed.

Parent Experience Survey

Muskego-Norway Schools is committed to engaging our parents and families in every child’s education. To continue our journey to excellence in this area, we gather data from stakeholders to determine where we are as a district and to set and act on realistic, measurable goals for continuous improvement. The Parent Experience Survey allows parents to provide feedback on their experience with their child’s school.  This year’s survey window will be open until April 24. Each school has shared a link via the weekly family newsletter. If you did not receive a link, please contact the building administrator of the respective school your child(ren) attends. Thank you in advance for making time to complete the survey and provide feedback about your experiences with our schools.

Top Workplace

Muskego-Norway Schools has been named a Top Workplace for the 10th year in a row, ranking #5 overall in the large company category! In addition to this great honor, we were also presented with a special category award for Values. Out of all the companies that were named a Top Workplace, MNS ranked #1 in the survey question: This company operates by strong values. We are incredibly grateful for all of our staff and to be acknowledged once again as a Top Workplace.

Teacher Appreciation Week

May 4–8 is Teacher Appreciation Week! We invite you to share a note of gratitude with a teacher and/or take part in your school’s PTO celebrations, if available. Our teachers’ dedication is at the heart of MNS, and we’re grateful to have a full week to celebrate and appreciate them.

Parents United

Parents United is a non-profit consortium of southeastern Wisconsin special education departments that have joined together to provide an educational community service. The lectures and presentations offered each school year provide essential links, knowledge, and networking to the entire community for the ultimate benefit of our students. The mission of Parents United is to present timely and relevant information in a neutral forum for parents and professionals who work with children.  Click here for the Parents United website and click here for the 25-26 brochure of all events.  These are flyers for  the next two exciting upcoming events:

  • April 21 - This is an engaging two-part virtual presentation featuring Dr. Amy Coopersmith of Self-Determined Kids and Captain Me®! The first hour of our event will dive into the core principles of self-determination, providing practical strategies for both home and school. The second hour shifts to an early childhood focus, demonstrating how puppets and role-play can be used as powerful interventions to boost emotional development and student motivation. • May 20 - This is an in-person presentation from Linda Armas of Prepare Parents and author of The Freedom of Routine: Teach Your Children to Pinpoint Priorities, Get Things Done, and Foster Life Skills While Nurturing Family Relationships. Participants will explore the ROUTINES RULE! framework, and design their own role-specific plan that is ready for implementation to efficiently maximize daily efforts, minimize challenges, enhance relationships, and stimulate responsibility among those they work with, including children and adults alike. Threats are Taken Seriously

Please remember that if you or your children see or hear something suspicious, you should immediately report it to an administrator, a School Resource Officer, or call the local police department. We are committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for our students, and we are fortunate to have strong partnerships with you, our parents/guardians, in our district. With threats occurring more often in school districts, it is important that we take a moment to lean on this partnership and ask you to have a conversation with your children regarding the serious implications of making a threat to a school. Such behavior may have a lasting impact on a child’s education and future. The impact on the entire family is profound. Rather than waiting, we are asking you to personally discuss this issue with your children now. Whether a student perceives making a threat as a joke or “not a big deal”, making a threat toward a school could result in suspension, expulsion, and/or being charged as an adult with a felony. According to State of WI statute 947.015: “Whoever intentionally conveys or causes to be conveyed any threat or false information, knowing such to be false, concerning an attempt or alleged attempt being made or to be made to destroy any property by the means of explosives is guilty of a Class I felony.”  We continue to encourage our students and school community to report through Speak Up, Speak Out (SUSO) anything that could constitute a threat to school safety. As always, we work closely with local law enforcement to assist in these situations. Thank you for taking a moment to have this discussion with your children.

School Safety

Please know that Muskego-Norway Schools have safety plans and practices in place to prepare our school community for a crisis. Safety efforts and procedures include:

  • Three (3) Muskego Police Officers serving as School Resource Officers in our buildings. We lead Waukesha County and all rural school districts in southeast Wisconsin when it comes to staffing police in our schools.
  • District and school-level Emergency Response Teams meet regularly with the Muskego Police Department.
  • All external doors are locked during school hours, with supervised main entrances at all of our buildings.
  • Visitor entry is permitted only with official identification.
  • Annually, MNSD conducts all state-mandated drills, including two "lockdown" drills.
  • Background checks are required for volunteers and staff members to enter our schools and work with students.
  • Students who leave the learning environment during school hours and return are required to check in through the front office.
  • We know that schools are safest when students, staff, and families work together to reduce violence and address potential safety issues. We are asking that you continue to monitor your child’s and others’ online and social media activity and report any school safety concerns to law enforcement and school officials immediately. We are grateful for your partnership as we work to research and implement the most up-to-date procedures in protecting our students and staff from dangers in a crisis, as well as disseminate to staff at all buildings our safety procedures and protocols to follow.
