There are Three Types of Learners

The Surface Learners

The students who just want to get by with the bare minimum amount of work.

The Strategic Learners

The students who will do anything for the good grade.

The Deep Learners

The students who truly try to learn the content.

Deep learners...

...understand how they learn.

...are curious and ask questions.

...try to make sense of things they are learning.

...see the bigger picture.

...can apply knowledge across disciplines and situations.

...understand that failure is part of growing.

...may not have the best grades.

So what?

How do we get from here...

...to here?

What if instead of spoon- feeding students content...

...and asking them to regurgitate what you just told them...

...we gave them the tools and helped them find their own path to the answers?

Understand that change is slow, and that sometimes learners must face an uncomfortable situation.

Ask questions and provide problems to solve that students care about.

Understanding these 6 concepts can be the key to fostering deeper learning.
