Welcome back to the final term of the year. I needed to say that just because time flies and I can't believe we're at term three already.
This week has included hosting some Interviews at Birkwood. I am delighted that Miss Emily Wyke shall be joining us from September as our school continues to grow. I am sure that she will add many strengths to our team and really look forward to working with her.
Our Girls’ Football Team (Y5/6) drew 1-1 away to Milefield. They shared a fantastic contest with Milefield; there was an abundance of skill and effort on show. It could quite easily have been goals galore with the chances created. Well done to all the girls who represented us. Thank you to Mr. Walton for his leadership again. Please see the photos below.
We held our latest Parents’ Evening in school this week, (and did some meetings over the phone.) It is always brilliant to share the progress of the children and simply to continue our connections between home and school. A huge thank you to everybody who has engaged in this process.
Anybody who has missed a call or would like to discuss their children with their class teachers, then we can accommodate this so don't feel that you have missed out! Let us know and we’ll ensure it happens.
Mr Summerfield is surviving! I again send love from everybody to him and his brand-new family. A wonderful time and we are hoping to meet the new arrivals at some point next week. Thank you to our families of the children in his class for the understanding over slightly different arrangements for Parents’ Evening this time.
Celebrations this week too! We hosted House & Attendance parties. Thanks to Mr. Davis for his efforts; rewarding our pupils is always something that we enjoy at Birkwood.
We were blown over by our FS 1 (Nursery) Easter Bonnet Competition. Stunning! Well done to everybody involved.
A huge thank you to our admin staff for their work today. Arranging Class photos is a tricky task; I am sure that you will be delighted with the results. The children definitely looked extra smart for today! We are hosting another day for Reception Children & Afternoon Nursery – Tuesday 6th May 2025. We have had several absentees and didn’t want anyone to miss out.
Y3/4 Boys football comes to Birkwood this afternoon. A huge, good luck to all of the players. I am still excited about the fact that we are again able to host sporting events thanks to the sports pitch. I know the team will do was proud.
We will be holding a commemorative event at the National Memorial Arboretum on Thursday 8th May to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War. Miss Betts & Mrs. Lavendar will finalise details next week BUT we are asking for children to be dressed in Red, White & Blue please.
We shall have a treat or two for the children.
We shall also use the following clip in many classes.

Compass Be have a new ‘The Climb’ parent/carer group beginning on Thursday 22nd May 9.45am – 12pm. The group aims to support parents/carers who are supporting a child or young person with Special Educational Needs, disabilities, or mental health problems. There will be guest speakers each month from different support services from across Barnsley, and plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits! The aim of this group is to help parents/carers feel that they are not alone and get support and guidance from their family practitioners.
Congratulations and welcome to our new starters in Reception for September – we shall be in touch! Offer day fell in the holidays and we seem to be popular! This is down to our staff, children and families so a huge thank you to all.
Have a really lovely weekend and enjoy more lovely family time wherever possible. Be ready with the sun screen next week - forecast looks great!
