Music is always a great expression of culture. One of the first mentions of Chihuahua Hill recorded in Silver City newspapers, speaks of a baile, a dance, being held Mexican residents of the neighborhood. Music created a backdrop to the history of Chihuahua Hill. Many stories tell of romantic serenades near the Capilla, the festive guitars playing las mañanitas at birthday parties, or the appeal of the jukebox in the Rainbow Café, a hangout for many neighborhood youth.

“A lot of good music. A lot of them were the Spanish songs. They were very graceful songs. Enjoyable,” remembers Steve Ray Aguirre. Chihuahua Hill produced many great musicians who played in many bands throughout Grant County. Nestor Placencio, who played in many bands throughout Grant County, is remembered as “a good guitar player, he could play play the guitar and sing beautiful.” A band called La Capilla Trio was formed in the neighborhood by Juan Murrio, Toby Greenie, and Gilbert Ramirez in the 1960s.
