Get to know Coach Cassell

Why do I coach?

Coaching is teaching and ultimately I have always had a passion for teaching. Athletics serve as an amazing avenue for teaching skills that will impact our student-athletes long after they graduate from Denison.

What is your favorite aspect of coaching?

Seeing our student-athletes grow as people throughout their four years at Denison is what I will always value the most. Effective coaching is all about relationships and it is those relationships that make what I do such a privilege.

What is your favorite thing about Denison?

The community and people. Relationships drive this place and it is a really unique environment to be a part of. Faculty, staff, and administrators all work together to provide the best possible experience for our students. I haven't seen a place that truly cares about the student body like Denison.

What is your vision for the program?

Our student-athletes have a lot of autonomy in regards to collaborating on yearly team goals and priorities. For DUVB's bigger picture, long-term goals, we believe we can consistently compete for conference championships and be one of the premier D3 volleyball programs in the country. Not just in regards to the level at which we compete, but the way we train and the experience we provide. Denison is a place where we blend high academics and competitive athletics at an elite level.

Looking Ahead

As we look to bring in the future of our program, there are a few key characteristics we prioritize:

  • Selfless teammates
  • Strong work ethic
  • Curious learners
  • Passion for the game

Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college program. We are intentional in our recruiting process and it is incredibly important to us to find the right fit. We are excited for the future of DUVB and building upon the tradition of our program.
