Advancing College Access Together!

Strengthening Genesee County’s Pathways Beyond High School

Every student in Genesee County deserves meaningful opportunities beyond high school and ensuring that access takes a coordinated community effort. That work is led by the Genesee County Career and College Access Network (GCCCAN), a collaborative partnership supported by the Greater Flint Educational Consortium, the Michigan College Access Network, and the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD). GCCCAN brings together K–12 schools, higher education institutions, workforce development partners, businesses, and nonprofits to increase postsecondary enrollment and completion across our county. Recently, partners from across the region came together to deepen this shared commitment. The gathering helped with aligning efforts, and the information and tools highlighted during the discussions will continue supporting students long into the future.

Educators Share a Commitment to Student Success!

Countywide Academic Goal Supports Literacy & Numeracy

Genesee County has established a clear academic goal: by 2030, the county aims to exceed state assessment averages in math and reading by closing the gap between county and state performance each year. This goal, created by the Genesee County Superintendents in February 2025, provides a focused framework to support student growth and strengthen instruction across all schools in the county.

Teacher Leadership Symposium!

Inspiring the Next Generation of Genesee County Educators

This past fall, the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD), in partnership with the Greater Flint Educational Consortium (GFEC), celebrated the fourth consecutive year of its Teacher Leadership Symposium. What began as a collaborative idea among regional leaders has now become one of Genesee County’s signature efforts to address one of the most pressing challenges facing Michigan schools, the educator shortage.

Project SEARCH Program Expanding!

Partnerships Build Career Pathways for Transition Students

GISD’s Transition Center is proud to offer Project SEARCH, a program designed to help young adults build the skills, confidence, and independence needed for competitive employment. Through a strong partnership with Genesee County Parks, students learn and work directly within the park facilities, gaining meaningful, real-world experience in a supportive environment. Project SEARCH is a full-year, business-immersed program where students spend their days on-site at Genesee County Parks gaining experience through classroom instruction and hands-on job training.
