Darkstalker

I created a book cover for the novel “Darkstalker” from the Wings of Fire series. I learned how to apply texture to flat shapes and use drop shadows. My goal was to create a cool book cover. I feel as though I succeeded; I didn’t have an exact direction for this project, but I sort of fell into a “heavy metal album cover” aesthetic through my use of metal textures. I like it, though. I hope the audience will be inspired to draw dragons because they’re cool.

HELLSTRIDER

In this project, I was instructed to design a movie poster for a fictional film. I imagined a story wherein a demonic nomad travels a hellish wasteland, and used a combination of threshold adjustments and color selection to create this piece. I used camera parts, skeleton photos and video game asset images to achieve this. I learned how to utilize the various selection tools in Photoshop. My goal was to create something cool, to be honest. I feel like it looks solid. I hope the audience thinks it looks cool too.

Grief

In this project, I was tasked with creating a collage of elements that I would send a message with, by arranging them in Photoshop. I decided to take Halloween skeleton photos, a human heart, and some chains, and attempt to depict the feeling of your identity being forcibly stripped from your chest by grief. During this project, I learned a lot, including how to better use filters. The main theme of this piece is that depression can cause one’s talents and passion to fade away, and it can be agonizing and frustrating to feel helpless as it’s all pulled away from you. I feel like this piece was a definite success and I hope that whoever views it can resonate with the emotions depicted.

Galapagos Postcard

I was tasked to create a postcard for a geographic location, and so I chose the beautiful islands of Galapagos. I learned how to apply filters and select specific layer content. My goal was to create a visually pleasing postcard. I feel satisfied with the colors but I have room for improvement with regards to the unnecessary distortion of the animals within the title. I hope that the audience will be inspired to use more vibrant colors.
